Since you don't have to setup any kind of port forwarding or modifying router settings to get some of these working I'm assuming they have to go through the manufacturer's servers first right?

I have the Wyze v2 cam and having major problems connecting remotely. The thing never connects and when it does it's a slide show and then drops a few seconds later. Worthless for monitoring use or checking on something.

Everything seems to point to their side as my upstream is 10mbps and never had this much connectivity issue with the previous camera (died).

i have a Hikvision security camera. it has wifi as well as ethernet. wifi video is lousy, even though my wifi is strong. or sometimes no connection at all.
when i hook the cam via ethernet, video quality is perfect and never dropped connection.

It's fine when I'm home. It's only an issue when I'm away and trying to monitor remotely. Thinking it may be the app I tried Tinycam but it's just as bad. Since it's fine connected locally I'm going to try running an Android emulator on a PC hardwired with Ethernet and run Tinycam on it. Hopefully having the PC host the feed will help.

Well that plan didn't work. The emulator, Bluestacks, is just running in a virtual environment so the NAT it's doing won't allow it to be reachable from the outside. Not even on the network.

Have you tried changing channels on your wireless router to see if it improves the wireless connection in case you have interference on the current channel? how old is your router? you could try upgrading to a newer wireless router with N or AC if you haven't already...

I installed some Samsung 1080p wireless cameras (kit from sams club that included 4 cameras and a dvr) and watching the feeds remotely on her iphone has been very smooth...it was installed 6 months ago and so far, no issues at all...
