What issues are you talking about. The only issues I know of is the lack of Nintendo's franchise games (which are finally starting to arrive).

The Wii U is finally starting to round into a pretty good console with all the recent releases. Mario Kart 8 is probably the best mario kart yet and the DLC for it is pretty great and actually reasonably priced.

I just got a Wii U a month ago, so I doubt it was first generation.
It has no issues at all.

Oh, and Mario Kart 8 is so awesome you need to get it at the same time as your Wii U.
