WiiU .. Is it worth it ?

Hi !

In September, my boys will have their Birthdays (11 and 8 years) ..

I was thinking of getting them one shared gift, Wii U console with two controllers ..

Do you guys think it's a worthy choice ? They already have PS3 but they don't play much on it as most of their gaming is done on iPad .. This generation just loves touch screens ..

When they play the right game they will forget touch screens. My friend's son was the same way. He now plays all the Lego games on ps3. Also plays street fighter, mine craft on PC etc.

I think the Wii u with Lego city undercover and super Mario is not a bad choice. All the Wii titles work as well so there's that benefit too.

I think it could be a good choice.

For games, New Super Mario Bros U, New Super Luigi U, and Pikmin 3 will be out. The Wii U also has some downloadable titles to check out.

In October, Windwaker HD comes out. In November, Donkey Kong Freeze. In December, Super Mario 3D World.

If your kids haven't played them yet, you could also get New Super Mario Bros Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Pikmin 2 (and 1 if you can find it), and Donkey Kong Country Returns for Wii since the Wii U is backwards compatable.

There are sure to be some great games on it in the near future, but I worry about the longevity of the WiiU relative to other consoles. It's going to be a hard slog for nintendo in the latter half of this console's life. I bet pretty much the only good stuff coming to it during that time will be produced by nintendo themselves. Nintendo's IP is so good that may be enough for you though.

Short term, it's a pretty limited system as far as games being available for it. Next year looks promising for 1st party stuff, but EA isn't developing for it at all, and Ubisoft is complaining about it not being profitable either, so could only be a matter of time before they jump ship.

We have a Wii U, bought it for Xmas last year, it collects a lot of dust, but there are a few decent titles for it that will probably hold them over until the 1st party stuff starts rolling out next year.
