Wiki suggestions for IT documentation

I'd like to move our documentation to a wiki to be hosted off-site, making access during DR more reliable.

I've checked out wikimatrix.org, but there is one thing I need to know that isn't specified there. I need the wiki to have an authentication page ad use internal user accounts for access. I don't want to rely on password protected folders and/or .htaccess files for access to the wiki.

The following wiki's support the other features I need, but anyone know if any of them are ideal for a quick and easy installation with a built in login page. Wikimedia isn't designed for this, and though it seems possible, I rather go with something that doesn't require a lot of configuration and custom work to make a simple login page that is very bare (non-descriptive so nobody knows what is running).

I've also read a bit on DocuWiki. Does that have a simple, non-descriptive, login page?

You could always try Sharepoint. It's not as customizable as some of the other wiki's out there but if you're in a Windows environment a lot of it is easy to setup for a Wiki.

If the OP uses SharePoint as a Wiki, I guarantee that it will end up as a glorified network share. When it comes to Wiki functionality, SharePoint leaves a lot to be desired.

SharePoint's wiki functionality is very baisc, and many users find it easier to simply write their document into a Word or Excel document and upload it. However, this presents problems down the road because whereas adding a documentation to SharePoint is easy, modifying documents that already exist are not. We use SharePoint to manage our IT documentation as well, and I've run into countless situations where a change to a system has gone undocumented because the technician working on said change ran into a technical hurdle modifying the documentation in SharePoint and simply set it aside for "later" (which never comes).

Perhaps SharePoint 2010 is better in this regard, but I'd use a true wiki if I could do it again.

We have MediaWiki setup with AD authentication.
