Assange is openly shilling for Trump because he is hoping for a deal that will let him finally leave that embassy he's been stuck in. Just like Putin is shilling for Trump because he is hoping for a weaker US policy on sanctions and NATO.

It's mainly Russian policy of turning their perceived client states into war torn hell-holes so that they are too messy for NATO to expand into. Usually the areas of those countries closest to Russia are the biggest hell-holes, whereas those closest to NATO are peaceful.
