I am not talking about Putin at this point but rather Russian sentiments in general.Surely you realize that Putin is a serial liar, right? I don't know why anyone would trust a single thing he says.
For example, go look at his op-ed on not bombing Syria. Lol.
In Bosnia, there was an odd competitive but friendly relationship with the Russians. A recognition that just a few years earlier we were all training to kill one another, yet here we were working together for a common good.
In Kosovo, things became adversarial again, and nearly got shooty at Pristina airport.
At the senior level it became a mistrust of American intentions expanding its reach into the east. Very similar paranoia to the domino effect, which resulted in their developing hard line stances in Chechnya and the Ukraine. As had always been the case for Moscow, it boiled down to warm water port access and raw materials.
