Will 2nd Amendment Stand Forever?

I am afraid that with the relentless attacks against our 2nd amendment rights, that with another mass shooting or two the public outcry will finally be loud enough to force change to our constitutional rights.
I personally think that eventually, the 2nd amendment will be severely castrated if we don't get a real grip on the mental health situation in this country. Something has to eventually give. Change will happen either to the way we handle mental health, or the way we own firearms. Lets make sure its mental health.

i do believe it will. as much as congress tries to restrict it, i believe recent supreme court rulings will provide guidance on future challenges that will ultimately rule in favor of the people.

the only "problem" with this scenario is that it will take time for the SC challenges

No. People are becoming less independent and more fearful. Fewer people hunt, and fewer people shoot recreationally. Eventually the proggies will win out and while you'll still have a right to be armed, that right will be limited to government agents and government conscriptees. The OP's point about mental illness is a good one, but that goes against political correctness that there are no bad people, only bad objects.

Good responses. I can't know the future in the way i'd like to, so i'll have to go with my best guess, and i think the 2nd amendment is going to be in dire trouble before too long. So, I will be joining gun groups and donating to their lobbys and doing what ever else I can.
I'd like to just assume that since the bill of rights is supposed to be respected that it will remain respected. We already know that it won't. Compared to other world empires and powers, the US is very young. I can't imagine that we are doing anything special enough to protect our very unique, fragile and constantly attacked fundamental rights. So I will do more than I ever have before, and until recently I have done what most americans have always done....absolutely nothing!

There are enough people in the country now in support of the 2nd that seeing the constitution changed to remove it is absolutely inconceivable, but in time that could change.

The internet has allowed disinformation to flow more freely than in the past, but also truth as well. The problem is human psychology doesn't change. The availability heuristic combined with humans' long standing fear and willingness to give away freedom in the name of perceived security will continue to beat against the sea walls of the 2nd.

SCotUS has been punting gun cases for a while now. They aren't going to take a case until the issue is decided politically.
