That being said, he already has either a gtx 760 or 670 (not sure from his post exactly!!) and that is a mighty fine card @ 1080p. If he is going to 1440p or 1600p, I would upgrade the video card at that time. (as in, order the new videocard when you order the new monitor). New videocards from both NV/AMD will be coming out in the following months, and a gtx 670 (or 760!) when overclocked a little bit is MORE than enough, even for some casual 1440p gaming, if you turn down a couple settings perhaps. I think at this current juncture, a gtx 780 is not a good investment for his current system. Just my .02!

I have a mildly oc'ed 670 and I disagree that it is enough at 2560x1440. I specifically tried a 27' cat leap, and my system struggled. Single player games were ok with low framerates, but online games were a challenge. I constantly had to make sacrifices to run that monitor at native resolution. Sure, average fps was mid forties, but the mins would dip into the low thirties or (gasp) high twenties. Not a fun experience for me, at least.

Not surprised there isn't really any single cards out now that can run 1440p and 1600p with most settings turned on in all games, that includes the titan.

You need to start looking at crossfire and SLI if you want to keep that native res and still play with most settings turned on.

I think we still a generation or two from a single card that will allow you to play at those high resolutions without compromise.

You're still focusing too much on the GPU. Your focus should be on a balanced system.

You're spending too much on your GPU when your CPU is - no offense - a joke in many games. CPU limited games absolutely will suffer. Some GPU limited games won't be much different. However, the great majority of games, especially newer ones such as crysis 3, demand a better CPU. BF4 will be heavy on CPU load as well, especially in multiplayer. You're setting yourself up for failure by not upgrading your CPU.

Your system is completely imbalanced, you should balance your CPU and GPU rather than throw all of your resources at the GPU and spending too much on it, while leaving your weak CPU alone. Just my advice. Obviously you can do whatever you want with your $ and nobody here cares, but I think you're spending too much money on an imbalanced system. I've upgraded many lynnfield level systems (i7-870) to Haswell for friends and the difference in most games is fairly immense, regardless of what GPU is in use.

An i5-750 @ 4.0GHz is hardly a Joke and will not be a bottleneck for the majority of games, especially once he moves to 2560x1600. A 4.0 GHz i5-750 is as fast as a stock 2500k in many games, which is still PLENTY powerful for majority of gamers out there.

This non stop advising everyone must have highest level hardware to enjoy gaming needs to stop.

I agree it could be a bottleneck in *some* games, but not enough to warrant a CPU upgrade *right now* unless he has the money to burn.

Yes Crysis 3, BF4, etc can use 8 threads, we know. It doesn't mean 4 cores can't still play it.

Once it becomes a more apparent issue, then upgrade. For now, his i5-750 is perfectly fine.
