will formatting first hard drive cause unreadable contents on 2nd hd?

Hey guys
i currently have 2 hard drives. and i just transferred some documents and stuff to my 2nd hard drive. i'm planning on reformatting my first hard drive with a clean install of xp. i was just wondering after i reforamt will my new installation of xp recognize my 2nd hard drive and be able to read its contents, or will i be forced to format it. causing loss of data.

The installation of XP on drive 1 will not affect anything on drive 2. The only exception to this is if the data moved from drive 1 to drive 2 is encrypted . . . in which case it will become inaccessible. If you are using encryption on these files, remove the encryption and then move to drive two.

What if you are switching from different OS's, like from a Win2k pro clean install to Win XP pro? Would the 2nd hard drive still be able to be read?

Is your 2nd drive NTFS or FAT?

If it's XP it makes no difference what the file system is. It just hase to be there w/o encrypted files. And, make sure permissions aren't weird. For the install, I'd share everything.
