SAT = 1310 (670V, 640M)
SATII Writing = 670 (72 percentile)
SATII Math 2C = 620 (31 percentile)
SATII Bio-M = 710 (79 percentile)

Weighted GPA = 4.10 (grades 9 to 11)
AP Lang & Comp = 4 out of 5

currently taking AP Lit, AP Bio, AP Calc BC.
i have a definite A in Bio, a probable A in Lit, but i have a C in Calc.

UCSD is my first pick, but i also applied to SDSU and UC Irvine. what do you think my chances are of being accepted?

SDSU, you should already have had early acceptance without trying. UC Irvine is almost guaranteed. But UCSD is questionable depending on how many and how qualified the other applicants are. if i were to take a guess at your chances, i'd say 50/50.

You're in
when i applied, 1170 SAT, weighted gpa of 4.2x (forgot what), didn't do SAT II's well, and only AP test I passed was us history with a 3.
Your GPA alone will get you into UCSD

Well, it differs every year and you can never tell.

Some of my friends got in UCLA and Berkeley, but didn't get into UCSD. So you'll just have to wait ...

It really depends on what major you apply for. But with a 4.1 GPA, you shouldn't have much of a problem getting into any department.

you should be in.. UC's only count from grades 10-12 though. So you might want to recalculate your GPA. It probably depends on what major you choose. I just graduated from UCSD, and I never came close to 4.0 weighed GPA in HS, but that C in Calc may bring it down some. I think the average GPA admitted was 4.0 at UCSD this Fall.

Okay, so maybe "any department" was something of a blanket statement, but of course CS is going to be harder to get into. Craploads of people go for CS, including a lot of my friends that had freakish GPAs but knew nothing about computers (and were accepted).

Definite A in Bio, eh? Nice. I got a C in my AP Bio class. GPA Killer.

Here's my 2 cents. Nobody knows what your chances are because you never know what the admission guys are looking for. My friend had a lower GPA than I did and he got into LA when I didn't. But then again, I applied for CS and 60% of the people applying for engineering at LA wanted CS. Another example, my friend didn't get into Riverside but he got into SD. He didnt' get into engineering, but he still got into SD.

Here are my HS specs. I'm currently a freshman at SD with a CS major. I dropped out of my first CS class this fall quarter, heh. So good luck to you.

SAT = 1400 (650V, 750M)
SAT II Writing = 690
SAT II Math 2C = 790
SAT II Physics = 730

(10-12)
Unweighted GPA = 3.7
Weighted GPA = 4.08

How much do you extracurricular activities count? Anyway, I had sports, yearbook, orchestra, student government, academic teams. That's about it. That got me into CS at SD and Irvine but not LA or Berkeley. Good luck to you. Your AP Scores will probably have an effect, too. PM me if you feel like knowing more.

Don't know what you're majoring in, but sounds like your grades and scores are good.
I know a friend that got a 3.9 or so, but he took all easy classes (no honors or AP), he applied to all the good UCs. Not a single one took him.
And you're taking AP classes, good for you.

I Bet you that you'll make it into UCSD.
I heard (never seen it myself), but heard San Diego State University is one huge party school.

seems like many schools are looking for extracuricular activities...most highschool kids fail to take this into account when thinking about colleges.

i'm really interested in biology, so that's what i put down for my major. i don't think UCSD biology is as competitive as a CS major.

i have no extracurricular activities beside one year in the science bowl team (quiz show - like academic league, but only science questions).

my college choices were:
1 - John Muir
2 - Revelle
3 - Sixth College
4 - Earl Warren

I'm only a junior in HS, but my sister's boyfriend and his best friend both applied to UCSD and got in a couple years ago. The problem with GPA's at my school is that there are so many honors classes (some of them are just plain BS classes) that it's possible for a 5.0 GPA or higher, and some people achieve that. So a 4.1 isn't very high if ur at my school, but it all depends on ur school and it's system. Anyways, I dont think you'll have too much of a problem, but the question is do u really want to go there ie are u trying to get into the school because it's strong in what u want to major in or is it because of location, since I notice u also mentioned SDSU. But if u do goto SDSU, make sure u get down to the baseball field and get Tony Gwyn's autograph cuz he's head coach this year! Can't find a nicer guy in the world

If an A in honors is 5 points, how can you get higher than a 5.0 GPA? Anyway, I always thought that you screw yourself over when you take honors courses. Because if you have a 4.7 GPA and decide to take a regular course, no matter what grade you get, you will lower your GPA. I just find that funny.

actually schools are stressing extracuricular activities more then ever these days. The way I see it though, the schools look at your GPA first, so if you don't have that established, they wont even look at your outside activities (easier to say then extracuricular). I got so caught up in outside things during my sophomore year that my GPA actually went below 3.5, and now my parents are on my case really really badly.

er, my bad. Meant 5.0 only, not higher.

Don't worry about differences in schools GPA. When I spoke with my counselor in college ( I attended UCD), she asked which HS I went to, and said knew about it as well as the type of classes they offer, which were good, what type of students came out of it, etc. I know it's just a general idea of the school, but if your school is known for inflated GPAs and cranks out students who do poorly in college, they know

And, I applied for UCD, UCSD, and UCB for their CS engineering programs. I bet UCB laughed at me, because I didn't get in. UCSD and UCD accepted me without problems though.

To be sure you get in, you selected the right major for your scores I switched from engineering after one year of hell to biology (and i hated biology in HS). Anyway, biology, to me was a lot easier, and this comes from a guy who never did ap biology in HS. Your AP biology background will cover your first quarter biology class. AP Calc will cover your first 2 quarters of calculus (for biology majors).

From then on, good luck to you. I advise you to know your chem as to me, it was the backbone of most courses I took. What are your career goals anyway?

i think the #1 guy in our class has a ~4.6, but he took something like 10 AP classes in his sophomore and junior years. i don't think our school's (Carlsbad High) grades are inflated. it's a senior class of about 600-650 students.

my career goals? it's been pounded into my brain that i should become a doctor, but i'm not too sure. however, i really do like biology, and i'll have the first year of college to figure out what i want to do. that's what college is for, right?

Uhm are you sure you have that right? You know that a 4.0=100, and a 5.0=125 right? How can people have a 125 average?! My school is ranked 2nd hardest school in the southwest, and is extremely competetive (came over from another HS, RANK KILLER). Even at our school, you only get 8 points for AP classes, and it's literally impossible to take an AP class for every single class (there's no AP pe, AP BCIS, AP geography, etc.). Even if it WAS possible, and you somehow managed to get a 100 in every class, that's only a 108 average (4.32 or something around there, did math in my head). I wanna go to your school if a 4.1 is no big deal!

Sorry that was OT, you should get in I would think
