anyone know if your loose your RAID array (RAID 0 Array) if you switch mobo's? Right now I have a on board RAID controller (Promsie Fastrak 100 something or another on an ASUS board), if I switch to another board do I loose the array? That would suck if I did...160GB array isn't the easiest thing to back up!

I think you would lose it because when you'd boot up, since there wouldn't be an array in the bios yet, you'd have to create one. That's just my opinon, it's a good question tho.

that's what I was thinking as well which sucks a$$. I wonder if I do a repair array if that would fix it. I'm not 100% sure how raid array's are setup, but there has to be something setup between the hdd's as well as the BIOS for the RAID controller...all I know that I will be extremely pissed off if this doesn't work out....that means I'll have to goout and buy a nother huge hdd jsut to back up stuff or burn a $hitload of stuff which won;t be a fun thing

Repairing the array is worth a shot, but I wouldn't hold your breath... I think there might be something stored on the drive as well. If you do back up before you switch, try the repair thing and let us know so we can help others later....

USUALLY RAID-volume information is stored on the HD's, not the RAID-controller (due to historic reasons, it's better this way too). So, your new board should detect the volume & be able to read it, if it's compatible to the RAID-format of your current RAID-controller.

So - as such, it "ought" to work, if your RAID-controller is half decent.

'Course, with desktop RAID, it might not be.

Hope this helps somewhat.

Answer is no...i just did it...
your harddrive is set up that way...it acts as one harddrive...just make sure you have the exact same channel master/slave set up as before for the RAID
oh...didn't realized you are using on-board raid...but i wouldn't think it will erase your raid set up...are the two boards have the same RAID controller?
