depends on what kind of board you use... if you go canterwood with that p4 you will see a difference that $90 might be worth... Then if you overclock it ... you will achieve a performance gap that even an xp3200+ won't match*
I've done a bunch of research into this, since I was initially going to get a Barton 2500+ on an Asus A7N8X-Deluxe, but am now getting a P4 2.4C on an Asus P4P800 (865). I plan on overclocking, and the Intel appears to beat the AMD in all games, except in UT2K3 where the scores are essentially matched (when running similar speeds). Check out this review:
