So I'm thinking about upgrading to the new Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe and an AMD X2 3800+ and I want to use my XP-120 to cool the thing. Problem is that I don't know if the monstrosity known as the XP-120 would fit.

From pics that I've seen, it looks like the XP-120's heatpipes would either come in contact with the radiator or block the 1st DIMM slot depending on which way I install it.

Here are some pics from the Tweaktown.com review of the A8N32.

Looks like I might need to get a XP-90 instead...........

What do you guys think

i have the premium board and from the way its set up i think the 120 is tall enough to clear everything as long as u install your memory fisrt. Migh want to check w/asus just to be on the safe side tho

I think it will fit w/ pipes oriented toward the RAM & not block the RAM slot as long as you dont use the pro modules from Corsair. The board layout in that area looks exactly like the A8V dlx. If not, then I dont think it will hit the rad if mounted with pipes toward rad. Might have to do some "capacitor tilting" though. Just a guess.

Well, here's the latest skinny on your issues -- I believe they're moot.

Get the SI-120 instead of the XP-120 -- lower thermal resistance, better cooling, and the SI-120 has the same footprint, but it is 25mm (approx. 1") taller than the XP-120.

I agree, but the OP already has an XP120.

The difference between the XP and SI version is probably not enough to warrant buying the SI unless the OP is an extreme overclocker who prefers air-cooling and for whom money is no object. (But it is . . . . it is . . . . )

If there were clearance or accessibility issues, however, the SI-120 completely resolves them.

I've been comparing pics of the 2 boards and it looks like the sockets are in different locations. Thew socket on the A8N32 is closer to the middle of the board while the Premium has the socket closer to the edge of the mobo. The socket on the A8N32 is also closer to the DIMM slots and the radiator. But I still hoping the XP-120 still fits.

I'm not going to get the SI-120. I don't think it'll even fit my case cause its gonna be really tall with the fan on there.

I'm not into OCing but I want to have my CPU as cool as possible without water cooling.

Pics: A8N32 vs. Premium.
