My mom said she is voting for Bush so she can keep her job. She is a government employee. Her boss and co-workers are also doing the same for the same reason. They might not agree with Bush, but they want to keep their jobs. At first I thought this was just a GSA rumor that was spreading around. GSA is the branch my mom works for. Then at work this guy told me that he is also voting for Bush even though he hates the guy because if Kerry was elected he would lose his job. Then a co-worker said his dad is doing the same thing too. That's a million+ people that will most likely vote for Bush so they could keep their job.
So what is the truth behind all of this? Are they all afraid of another Clintion repeat? Has kerry said he would cut jobs?

I'm sorry to say this, but I want your mom out of a job, and every other government employee as well. Government jobs are not what people think they are. They are parasitic, inefficient wastes of humanity.

Go become her boss and maybe you can fire her. However, I doubt you can since firing from the government is very hard. I will agee that there are a lot of lazy people in the government who take advantage of that system of not being easily fired.

I would never in a million years want to join the state, especially as some bureaucrat. It is not a matter of there being "lazy" people in the government, it is at matter of ethical principles. Your mother is being paid with money that was immorally expropriated from peaceful individuals. This is what people do not understand about the "public" sector jobs. They are parasitic. Every government job is a parasite on the rest of the economy, sucking away someone's earned wealth somewhere. I know that people in the government cannot be fired easily, and I think that it is horrible that this is the case.

One of my pet peeves is the fact that people cannot discern the difference between "public" sector jobs (which are illegitmate) and private sector jobs. One destroys wealth, while the other produces it. People in "public" sector jobs produce goods and services, but the production is artificially managed, and artificially doled out (there is often no rational reason why a particular person receives a particular government good). It is the difference between order and chaos, really. Bureaucracy and central planning is chaos, while private enterprise is order.

Hey my job is coming up for bid. You can have it! BTW, we produce a lot of Hydro Power .... One of the FEW Gov jobs that actually makes $$! I agree that there is a LOT of DEAD WOOD in the Govt ... I think we should start with the Presidents job.... Outsource it to the lowest bidder. That A$$hole has never worked in his life.... Pretty disgusting excuse for a human being...

You're right, they should just dump it into the Federal Deficit instead. Afterall, we know thats essentially a big bucket of free money. WTF are those stupid Dems thinking not using it?

All of them are talking about it? My wife isn't. She works for the Department of Veteran's Affairs.

To be fair, my wife was hired under Clinton and has received 4 promotions under Dubbya.

EDIT: anyways I thought Bush and co. were for smaller government??

Having worked at/for NASA in the not too distant past I can honestly say with some first hand knowledge that I think your friends or the people you know are in the minority...it is almost certain that Kerry will cut even deeper into NASA's budget as democrats, especially Clinton were notorious for slashing what they deemed as "wasteful" spending and putting it towards more social programs, and unfortunately things like the military and also the space agency are the two first to feel the bite...NASA got a huge budget boost when Bush came onboard over the pittance that Clinton had given them and also Sean O'Keefe commanded alot more respect than the former Dan Goldin who I had the opportunity to meet on more than a few occasions.

In response to the OP, if your mother works in a Bush funded program, or something created under the Bush admin then there is a very real chance that yes her job will be in trouble, something which often happens in an administration change...I remember when working at NASA when Clinton left and Bush took over almost the entire upper level of high level directors were moved out and replaced with Bush appointees...I also have more than a few family members who will be negatively impacted by a Kerry win and I myself along with my wife working in the pharaceutical industry might be negatively impacted.

Who said they wouldn't? Again, you assume that neocons care about lowering deficits but history shows you are wrong. See Reagan and Bush.

I thought it was the republican conservative mantra that calls for "less government". More and more I'm seeing this adminstration as the equvelent of evil, spreading lies and deciet and people thinking it is manna from heaven, when in fact is the exact opposite.

The last thing I would think is that Kerry is calling for anyone to lose their jobs. That is the farthest thing from anything he has ever said. I sure hope your joking, or your mom is.

That was the Old Republican Mantra, no longer the Montra of the Neocons that have taken over the Republican Party.

They should be afraid of a Clinton repeat, there is too many Government jobs of people doing sh!t and getting paid for it. Sad thing is it is clear by the OP's post that they know their job is not worth 2 sh!ts.

Government at it's finest

Kerry does want to consolidate all the statistical agencies, and many people would loose their job in Commerce/Census/Labor, et al...lots of people where I work will lose their jobs, but that is not necessarily a bad thing
