My mom said she is voting for Bush so she can keep her job. She is a government employee. Her boss and co-workers are also doing the same for the same reason. They might not agree with Bush, but they want to keep their jobs. At first I thought this was just a GSA rumor that was spreading around. GSA is the branch my mom works for. Then at work this guy told me that he is also voting for Bush even though he hates the guy because if Kerry was elected he would lose his job. Then a co-worker said his dad is doing the same thing too. That's a million+ people that will most likely vote for Bush so they could keep their job.
So what is the truth behind all of this? Are they all afraid of another Clintion repeat? Has kerry said he would cut jobs?

I thought it was the republican conservative mantra that calls for "less government". More and more I'm seeing this adminstration as the equvelent of evil, spreading lies and deciet and people thinking it is manna from heaven, when in fact is the exact opposite.

The last thing I would think is that Kerry is calling for anyone to lose their jobs. That is the farthest thing from anything he has ever said. I sure hope your joking, or your mom is.

I think it has to do with Clinton. Didn't he cut federal jobs?

President Bush has made it clear he would not slash government jobs. I think this was a campaign issue in 2000 and he has stood by it.

It looks like John Kerry wants to slash 100,000 federal contract employees.
Link

Edit: However ...President Bush did early on freeze hirings and he froze people from moving up one level in the government.

True Republicans / conservatives are for smaller both federal & state govt. They're for strict, if not curbing, restriction of Federal govt expansion over the state govt power. They supposed to be for discipline budget & fiscal responsibilities. But since Reagan era, that's been abandoned altogether.

Tom DeLay is for smaller federal government. Well, as long as it's in favor of businesses. He called the EPA the "Gestapo" of the government. Bush is of a similar mindset. In the 2000 debate he said he didn't trust the Federal government.

This is the stupidist thing I've heard all day.

If they cut costs to spend money then aren't they being fiscally prudent?

If the Dems don't cut spending they're communists. If the Dems cut spending it's to fund their spending habits (which they're trying to cut).

Flip flop.

I'm sorry to say this, but I want your mom out of a job, and every other government employee as well. Government jobs are not what people think they are. They are parasitic, inefficient wastes of humanity.

Yeah. This seems like a bogus attempt to spread FUD.

How is it bogus? Is it not the truth? Do a search on google and you will see hundreds of articles about it. No I haven't talked to all of them, but surely they all talk about it at work. If someone said you might lose your job I think you would talk about it. If there was a chance a pink slip would be handed out in the next coming months you would discuss it with your fellow employees.

If you think I am trying to support Bush and bash Kerry then you should read my post on the WMD thread and others where I have bashed the current administration. I'm also one of the very few people on this board who think the liar Cheney lost the VP debate. Yeah I know I get a cookie for it but my point is I am just trying to find out the facts.

So you want the people fighting in Iraq to be out of a job? Why don't you tell them that.

Go become her boss and maybe you can fire her. However, I doubt you can since firing from the government is very hard. I will agee that there are a lot of lazy people in the government who take advantage of that system of not being easily fired.

I would never in a million years want to join the state, especially as some bureaucrat. It is not a matter of there being "lazy" people in the government, it is at matter of ethical principles. Your mother is being paid with money that was immorally expropriated from peaceful individuals. This is what people do not understand about the "public" sector jobs. They are parasitic. Every government job is a parasite on the rest of the economy, sucking away someone's earned wealth somewhere. I know that people in the government cannot be fired easily, and I think that it is horrible that this is the case.

One of my pet peeves is the fact that people cannot discern the difference between "public" sector jobs (which are illegitmate) and private sector jobs. One destroys wealth, while the other produces it. People in "public" sector jobs produce goods and services, but the production is artificially managed, and artificially doled out (there is often no rational reason why a particular person receives a particular government good). It is the difference between order and chaos, really. Bureaucracy and central planning is chaos, while private enterprise is order.

Absolutely, if I had my way they would be out of a job ASAP. I will tell them that, if I get the chance.
