Will money buy YOU happiness?

Would it? We're talking an absurd amount of money.

You can do nothing all day, or you can already "do nothing all day" right now?

You can get two chicks at once, "the type of chicks that would go for a dude like you with money".

You can feed the homeless, get rid of diseases and spend towards world peace?

How would this mountain of money makes YOU happy?

EDIT: Sorry guys, I'm not looking for a disccusion of the virtue if "money can buy happiness", I merely ask will it buy YOU happiness, personally.

EDIT 2: My take on things

I've seen some very valid arguments in this thread regarding the virtue of whether money can buy a person happiness. I think it's up to the individual to define their meaning of happiness, and if money would allow them to increase that level or happiness.

Having a ton of money would give me choices, choices that I may have never had before. Of course I will chose to do what's best for me, regardless of situations, and that will bring happiness. If I don't have to worry about consequences (legal contraints withstanding), then I don't think there are any problems that money can't fix. In the course of persuing happiness with this mountain of money, and you run into someone that can't be bought, why bother? Go buy someone else. Again, money would give you this power to chose.

Regarding personal issues, I can also chose to deal with them or not, just like how you would when you DON'T have the mountain of money. But sometimes, having that mountain of money would give you the confidence in making better decisions. In short, having a mountain of money would definitely makes me a bit happier. The problems that can't be fixed, won't be fixed with any amount of money. So regardless if you have this mountain of money or not, those problems remain; but having this mountain of money would certainly increase your happiness in other aspects of your life. Tangible problems with having lots of money is negligible, and I rather be miserable sitting on a mountain of money, than miserable sitting on a sidewalk.

Damn straight! I'd build a brew pub in New Zealand and kiss Bush goodbye!

Since some of my woes are associated with having to work 12 hour days to support my family I would say yes, that an absurd amount of money would pave the way to happiness. I don't believe that happiness would be guaranteed, but it would certainly make it easier to focus on the important things in my life that do bring me happiness.

Desire leads to wanting.

Wanting leads to jealousy.

Jealousy leads to suffering.

Although I believe money alone cannot make me happy, it is a big part of equation in determining quality of life. I definitely think a lot of money now will ameliorate things for me.

Of course not. Especially not with an absurd amount of money either.

One of the biggest issues with people who come suddenly into a lot of money is when they discover that money -- in and of itself -- won't make them happy. And if they thought that money would make them happy, and then it doesn't, then the sh!t really hits the fan in their lives. This is where you see many people spiral out-of-control into drug addictions, personal turmoil, etc. Even suicide (like Cobain).

What will you do without Bush to scapegoat for all the problems you see in the world?

Money doesn't buy happiness what it buys is choice.
Many miserable rich people out there, but what you do get is chosing your misery.

Money buys freedom. Freedom is the ultimate happiness.

Freedom from a job. Freedom to choose from a wider selection of partners. Freedom to pursue your hobbies. Freedom to travel and discover new things/places/people.

Anyone who says money does not buy happiness is doing it because it's cliche and fashionable.

I think $200,000 a year would buy me enough happiness. No need to be a millionaire... I love my life, just want to travel more.

 NICE

Money does not buy happiness, but it sure buys alot of everything else.

But seriously, I know plenty of my friends who are really well off, and I seem to be a lot happier than they are. They are constantly buying the newest thing, trying to fulfill some need and thinking they are happy, but once that feeling goes away, they go buy more useless junk. All of them are very nice and successful people, but everyone has some hang-ups.

Are we adjusting for inflation every year thereafter?

I would love to travel!!! I have never been overseas (didn't grow up very well off), but I plan on making a long vacation trip in another 2-3 years. I will do it only after I get all of my other goals out of the way though.

money cannot buy total happiness, but for me, it could lead to contentment and some type of joy simply bceause i could do what i want (contribute to help find a cure for cancer, donate it to childrens charities) and also i would not have to stress about work or making a mortgage payment each month etc, but i am sure there would come new worries and thoguhts as well.

I honestly think pure love can make someone happier than money can in certain situations.

I don't know if loads of money would buy me happiness, but I could rent it for the rest of my life.

Money wouldn't (necessarily) make us happy, but it would allow us to do things that brings happiness.

1) Elimination of debts.
2) Moving back home (we transplanted 1200mi away for my job).
3) Finance my heath care (and to a lesser degree, hers).

My wife and I have had this discussion. We have a great relationship, but are sorely homesick. We moved for the right reasons, (I currently receive 100% coverage on our health care plans through my employment) but haven't adjusted to RI after 2.5 years.

If we would have enough money to do the things above, everything else would fall into place.
