Will my system get a work-out with a 1680x1050 display?

I'm looking to get the NEC 20WMGX2 but worry if my video card has the muscle to run at 1680x1005 res without getting a massive workout.Is it even an issue?
As you can see in my Sig, my system is pretty powerful except for the Video card. It's a good mid-end card (nNVIDIA GF 7600GS w/passive cooling) and supports up to 2048x1536 . It lists 1600x1200 & 1600x1024 but doesn't specify 1680x1050. Am I screwed?Will it work? Will it work well without my Video card overheating?

1st, it's 1680x1050!, not 1005. 2nd, I have this monitor and a Geforce 7800GT so it'll work fine. Basically any graphic card with a dvi connection will work.

EIDT: and this monitor PWNZ!!111oneoneone!!!111!1! you won't regret it!


EDIT2: your graphic card might have trouble running some games at that resolution, It won't overheat It'll just be choppy. Games like Hl2 you should be fine with but F.E.A.R. and Quake 4 might be pushing it. Quake 4 runs fine on my 7800GT and F.E.A.R. is on teh borderline between playable and too choppy to play. Keep in mind my 7800GT is overclocked madly on a Zalman VF-700Cu.

Well, I don't think that card is powerfull enough for that resolution. Get a 7900gt

your video card will easily drive the monitor at that resolution and beyond. as for gaming...eh, you might want to upgrade to a 7900GT if you want to play at 1680x1050. thats for smooth gameplay.

my geforce3 can support up to 2048x1536 via dvi. lol i laugh if i even hint at gaming at 640x480 nowadays...

Yeah, for gaming get either the 7900 series, or X18/9 series. Otherwise you're fine with regular desktop and internet usage.

It'll work well with that LCD (very nice choice btw), but you'll have trouble with modern games at that resolution.

You could try running at 1280x800 for those games, but i find LCDs looks kinda crappy running at a lower rez than the native.

Consider an X1900XT if you plan on upgrading

I won't be doing any heavy gamming. I do alot of 3D modeling design work though.
BTW: Do you guys think the 20wmgx2 is a good all-around monitor considering that i'm not a gammer?
I know it has an AS-IPS screen which is supposed to be good for colors, text, and video.

Dude, it is the best LCD monitor in terms of usage, performance, etc. The only thing holding it back is size. (And IMO, an adjustable stand)

You will love it, if you can get it.

Agreed, that is the best looking 20" widescreen LCD out right now IMO. I would take one of these over my Dell 2005FPW anyday. Just make sure that you won't have a light source directly behind you because the screen is very glossy.

That card will work just fine.

I'm running 1680x1050 with an old 6800nu and I play WoW, Quake4, HL2 etc.

Once you plug the monitor into the card the drivers will detect it and 1680x1050 will show up in the rez list.

You hit it on the nail on the head: SIZE! Looking at the tv calculator, the 20WMGX2 looks small in comparison to the 19" 90GX2.
My second choice the Samsuing 204t which looks huge and seems to be considered the best all around monitor in that size range.I'm not a big gammer so the 16ms resonse time doesn't bug me but I worry it might show when watching.
I must say i love how the optioclear-type coatings make the screens look.

Can't wait...hopefully I won't be dissapointed...

I'll post some comments when it comes in. I don't have a camera so I have to decide if it's worth the trouble of buying a new roll of film just to show you folks. Maybe y'all should try to convince me.
