Will PC2100 slow down significantly AMD 64 socket 754?

Subj. I already have 768 MB Cl 2.5 ,PC2100 DDR SD RAM , and with current prices I really do not want to buy new ram.

How much slower my system will be with PC2100 ram instead of PC3200?

(I use my rig primarily for gaming and applications development) .

Not as much as a P4. Also a LOT of PC2100 will do PC2700 speed.

Also most NON agp/pci lock boards will run 209Mhz stable so worst case try and get a extra 9Mhz from your ram and CPU.

But I would not worry about it. That and ram prices will be dropping in the next month or 2 so wait.

I have some PC2100 that I'm hoping to reuse in a Asus K8V SE Deluxe with a 3200+ (2.2GHz). So since the memory controller is built-in on the A64, how would this work? Since I'll be using slower memory, does it also reduce the speed of the CPU? Or does the memory run asynchronous?

its really nice to see that ram speed isn't as much of an issue as it is on a Athlon Xp I'm half tempted to grab me a 2800

run async aparently

but u lose more performance becuase 1 its slower ram and 2 the asynchronous bit also contributes to a further loss

I am getting a A64 too I think it wil be here tomarrowor Tuesday I will be running the RAM at 192 mhz as I have PC2100 that has a killer OC on it though. I think I can run it at 200 if I set the CAS to 3 though. Hopfully the motherboard (Asus K8V SE) will be cooperative as I heard this things are VERY picky about RAM.

Speaking of running memory asynchronously, does anyone know how much of a performace hit there is for running the FSB and memory asychronously with A64s? I would figure that it wouldn't matter too much because of the onboard memory controller, but I'd still like to know with the recent introduction of the 90nm 3000+...

No one has shown in benchmarks that running your ram asynchronously hurst anymore than the decrease in ram bandwidth. The A64 seems to handle this well.
