Didn't even notice that.

i tried to watch the godfather for the first time about a year ago. i sat through it, but was extremely bored the entire time. i didn't even bother trying to watch part 2 because part 1 was just boring as shit.
I loved goodfellas and the sopranos. Tried to watch the godfather and found it so boring I had to turn it off. Maybe I'll give it another try sometime.
I found the first Godfather boring and the second I literally could not finish. Too fvcking boring, most overrated ever.
Dude, that's Scarface.
and yeah, Scarface is a shitty movie.
not the Godfather.
I respectfully disagree. That being said, The Godfather and Scarface shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence.
With all the bullshit remakes Hollywood is spitting out, The Godfather might be next on the list.
People expecting the ultimate gangster movie are generally disappointed in the Godfather. It is long and slow moving at times.
It is a great movie (one of the best ever IMO) because it is about the degradation of values in America. The whole series is about the family doing worse and worse things to stay competitive and powerful. Don Corleone initially refused to compromise his values, through the stupidity of his overambitious son he is shot. The bright young Michael takes over and is adept at growing the family, but his calculations are so precise they eventually lead him to order the murder of his own brother.
Keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer.
You see this is the great thing about the film, for you it shows the degradation of society, for me it's a character piece focusing on Michael.
The only reason everyone loves the Godfather is because every rapper has that movie poster hanging in their in-home theatre.
I was actually about to edit and add that what makes it a great piece of filmmaking is the strength of the characters, and the interactions of each characters motivations. The whole series is a chess match, with Michael as the focus. You can try to predict each character's moves based on their motivations, i.e. Vito slaps Sonny during the meeting to not speak out of turn. Why is he so harsh? Because he knows he'll be knocked off if it is know the second-in-line supports investing in narcotics.

Exactly and while the character isn't predictable everything he does you can see the thinking and motivations behind its by far one of the best developments of a character in all of cinema
Just to add a bit more. . I think the reason the sequel is considered just as good if not better is because you see the stark contrast between Vito and Michael. I talk about values and character development, etc. and I think it is summed up at the end of 2. Would Vito have ordered Fredo dead? What would Vito think of Michael ordering Fredo dead? What have our values become since the initial wedding scene?
More likely to be Scarface.
It took me watching it more than once to appreciate it. It took me til mid 2000s to watch it for the first time.
You stated your opinion... nothing more.
Real-life influences:
Large parts of the novel are based upon reality, notably the history of the so-called 'Five Families', the Mafia-organization in New York and the surrounding area. The novel also includes many allusions to real-life mobsters and their associates, and Johnny Fontane is based on Frank Sinatra, Moe Greene on Bugsy Siegel, for example.
Yeah...what??

The whole series is meh to me...saw the first few mins then turned it off
