This is a great question, however only appeals to a limited audience. I believe Apple will not release a 128GB version with the iPhone 5S, but will offer that storage option in the following version of the iPhone. I believe threw following their current pattern in product releases the addition of the storage just doesn't make sense until the iPhone 6. Just my honest opinion.

Especially if it's as slow as the current iPhone SSD's are. The major use of my iPhone 4S is photos & videos - working with large 8-megapixel files & HD video files, as well as transferring over USB 2.0, is just plain slow a lot. I think a larger/faster drive + USB 3.0 would be awesome. Especially USB 3.0 - I usually dump my photos/videos to my computer when I hit around 2,000 items in my Photo app and it takes forever to transfer to my computer, which is usually a couple times a month.

I would also really like to see the new 802.11ac on there, not just for PC syncing, but also for iOS device to device syncing, plus 128gb & 256gb hi-speed SSD options for the iPad. There's such great software available, like Avid video editing for iPad, that you can really do a lot with, but you're limited by the transfer speeds & storage capacities of the devices.

I'm doubtful because the sales numbers on the 128 GB iPads are very low. Of course you could make a valid argument that's due to the price of the option.

I've heard rumours that it will. Makes sense if it supposedly records 4K video. Mind you that kind of res is useless on a phone. Most don't even do 720p justice.

Really, instead of tossing in more memory, I really wish they'd just bite the bullet and add a MicroSD slot. But then they couldn't sell you extra storage at a jacked up price.

Maybe so!

If it's available, hopefully it's an option for the regular colored phones too.

I read the article as stating that the 128GB and the gold coloring are two separate new options not that the 128GB is only available to the gold-colored iPhone 5S.

That's probably because it was priced in addition to the existing 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models instead of being a direct high-end replacement for the 64GB model.

I think a larger/faster drive + USB 3.0 would be awesome.

It's worthwhile to keep in mind that SSDs typically work off of multiple NAND devices that essentially build an obfuscated RAID 0 array. The iDevices only have between 1 and 2 NAND chips in them, which is less than even the most budget-oriented SSDs.

Although, where we would probably see the most benefit is from a vastly upgraded NAND controller. I always see Anand talking about the terrible smartphone controllers, so that might be a good source to read up on them.

I would also really like to see the new 802.11ac on there

The only reason that I can think of for why they might consider not switching to 802.11ac is that most users don't have ac-based routers. I did a quick look at all the access points around me, and 10% were 802.11g and the other 90% were 802.11n. Although, it is worthwhile to note that Apple upgraded their networking gear to 802.11ac earlier this year.

We have five iDevices in our house. Four have 32GB and one has 16GB. I know it is such a First World Problem, but I find I am constantly making choices on the 16GB model and am getting close to the same issue on some of the 32GB models.

If a 128GB model came out, I would hope that the 64GB models would become more palatable.

If the base is 16GB and $649, then you'd have 32GB at $749, and 64GB and 128GB at $849 and $949.

802.11ac is a given. The big maybe is USB 3.0.

Is AC a given? Will it consume more power? I have doubts about USB3. The limit MIGHT be lightning...and even so, Apple has pushed to make iOS be workable WITHOUT a PC/Mac to back it up and such. Only advantage to USB3 is the charge rate off a PC.

I think ac is a lot more likely now that the iPhone supports 5ghz wifi.

USB 3 I'm iffy on. I don't think Lightning connector is a limiting factor. It was more than likely designed with faster interfaces in mind. I just don't think it's necessary.
