Will there ever be a SP3 for Win2k? When?

I'm quite frustrated trying to get my PC to work at its best with Win2k...Any word on a new service pack update?

probably soon since IE6 was just released. what problems are you having with 2k now that you need it so bad?

No specific problems, its my first time using an NT OS, so there are plenty of things I like about it, but I'm the kind of person who wants to make sure I've got my drivers and such the best they can be. So, I'm curious about a new service pack because I'm getting tired of trying to get every little security, ide busmaster or 3-D graphics driver to improve my performance...Detonators 4s will probably help, and hopefully VIA will get some better IDE busmaster drivers for my Epox 8k7a+, but I just interested in the 2K SP3 to offer more compatibility...

Yes, SP3 is in the works, and is now undergoing beta testing. Schedule for final release is 1H/2002.

Do either of you know where I could read/learn more about NTFS and file encryption? I find that feature of Win2k very interesting, but I want to learn more before I start changing settings on my PC...

I recently reinstalled on my OSes (including Win2K) after having things up and running well over a year. When I reinstalled Win2K, I slipstreamed SP2 directly into the install. Even though I had the same patches on my old setup, building them right into the OS install has made my system much nicer to use. Most things that had been frustrating me (inopportune crashes, etc.) are now a thing of the past. I even got new features like hibernate working by completely reinstalling the OS. Weird (as MS prolly claims you'll never install Windows XYZ again), but true.

If you have the option available, reinstall the OS with SP2 slipstreamed (search this forum for the 411).
