Will this computer run games decently?

Hi-

I just bought this computer for my wife:

I also added on one of these:

and 3 of these, totalling 2 gb of ram:

My question is this, if I wanted to use this as a gaming machine, will it be decent? Or should I spend some money and get myself something else? Thank you.

It'll run some games OK. The biggest issue is the 6800XT, that's gonna hold back performance in games.

No that will be fine for not the highest settings on games like COD2 and BF2... newer games IDK

The 6800 is a solid card that would be top of the line a year or so ago, but it will do what you need it to.

2 gig is more than enough when dealing with most of the current games, however... the future will change as it always does.

I am running a DELL (OMG) with a P4 2.53ghz, 1gig ram, and an Saphire x700 8x agp vid card and that runs COD2 on med to high and BF2 on medium

Athlon 64 3400+

Then I added another 1.5 gb RAM, for a total of 2 GB
And a 256 Mb EVGA 6800XT/ 256 mb ddr/ sli/ pc-e

That one is decent. What games are you looking to play on it?

I'd like to play f.e.a.r., oblivion, and then of course the standard ones for the wife- the sims series, not a whole lot of the extreme stuff, but i'd like to play those from time to time.

That will work fine. It may not play the very newest game with every single bell and whistle, but it will without a doubt play every single game out there with no problem at medium-high settings.

rather, medium settings, and most likely 10x7 resolution. the 6800XT isn't a very good card, but it runs okay.

i'd actually get a 7600GT if you are going to play fear or oblivion...i have a 6600GT (sort of comparable to a 6800XT) and it plays oblivion on 800x600 medium, and fear at 1024x768 medium video, high cpu. rig is in my sig. but if your wife doesnt care what res she plays at or how the game will look like, then by all means the 6800XT is perfect.

The 6800xt is lackluster to put it mildly. The default core is only clocked at 325Mhz I believe.
FEAR and Oblivion are resource hungry games. Get the 7600gt.

F.E.A.R. is a game that depends a great deal on visuals to create a mood. It's also a REAL resource hog at just about any detail level. Yes, you should be able to play it, but expect things to be fairly plain. If this fact doesn't bother you, then you're fine.

I don't quite remember - but wasn't the XT suffix card just complete crap? Get the GT at least. Get a 7xxx series for a few bucks more. FEAR will be so boring for you without decent graphics and sound.

FEAR is 99% gpu dependant, a 7600GT isn't enough, min 7900GT or 1800XT for FEAR and Oblivion to play at good settings according to me.
I think you have a socket 754, do you have pci e slot?
