I've got a WHS setup running on a DH57JG intel board. My box is out of space and I just keep looking at this newegg special ($279) for the TR8M-BP. I just want to run it as JBOD -- not partial to RAID which is why I went with WHS in the first place. Problem is that my mobo's esata doesn't support port multiplier technology. I know zip about port multiplying so I'm coming to you gurus to see if someone has any experience with it.
I already have a SY-PEX40008 controller card running, which says it supports "FIS-based switching with Port Multipliers" whatever that is, but I'm curious if anyone knows if this is compatable with what is being used on the TR8M-BP. Can I just buy a 2 port sata to e-sata bracket and then jack the TR8M-BP in to enjoy an extra 8 disc JBOD setup or will this not work?
I feel like I need a drink after tossing out so many acronyms.
