i was looking on the myverizon app and even though im out of contract and have unlimited data it has a "contract end" date of 4/14 or 6/14 (i forget). do the rest of you guys who are out of contract and on unlimited data have a "contract end" date as well?

You always have a contract end date, unless you're already out of contract.

With regards to the Unlimited plan: that's already off any/all new plans. Basically, you can retain unlimited data as long as you never change or renew: So if you want a subsidized phone, you'll have to make a new contract, and therefore no more unlimited. But you can keep your existing data plan by purchasing new cellphone(s) outright and putting your current sim card in the new handset.

They do not have a plan to move everyone off unlimited data. There will also be less of a focus on getting people to upgrade every two years.

I think they are happy with the thousands that are upgrading phones, switching to share everything, and losing their unlimited. A few holdout customers that will cling to their unlimited however possible won't be such a big deal to them.

I think when the last person currently in contract with unlimited is up, they may kill unlimited completely.

Unlimited is an extremely powerful tool to ensure that the people who have it never leave Verizon. The people who currently still have it and are willing to fork over the big bucks for phones to keep it would likely leave Verizon real quick if they took unlimited away from them. Verizon is fully aware of this.

Hope you are right but I somehow doubt it. The difference in price is HUGE. The most I've used in a month is 10GB, with an average of probably 5-6. Costs me 30 bucks. 10GB of space on verizons' new plan is $100. 6gb is $80. You really don't think Verizon is bothered by unlimited users paying nearly $100 less per month than current prices? Doesn't sound like Verizon to me.

Well his point is that if those people lost unlimited do you think they would stick around and pay that much more for limited data? Probably not. It's like what Microsoft said about piracy once. They don't like it but they'd rather their product be pirated than the competition.

The last date anyone with unlimited data will be under contract is June 27th, 2014. That is the date to watch. My guess, it gets killed after this date (or effectively killed by VZW jacking up rates).

I doubt the small percentage of people that are going to be left with unlimited data matters one bit to Verizon. It isn't going to even be a blip on their earnings sheet if those people leave (for what, someone else's limited data plan?). I have no doubt Verizon will kill everyone's unlimited data at some point in the near future.

On that logic I could predict that the small number of people left with unlimited isn't going to be a blip on their overall network so they won't care at that point. The number of people in the US who are willing to indefinitely buy new phones for $650 + tax is extremely small.

The problem will be at some point the unlimited users will be the worst abusers of the network, meaning that Verizon can "prune their tree" in a single move.

Good point. I just think Verizon's greed will outweigh their indifference.

one of my coworkers with VZW UL says he gets throttled as soon as 1GB so in effect they already did.

He's either on 3G (in which case, why the hell bother?) or lying.

The FCC has forbidden Verizon from throttling LTE on any sort of per-user basis. They don't do it.

He has a droid RAZR, but the other possibility we talked about is the towers might be heavily loaded.
He mostly says data has become slow in recent months.

If they end it I'll leave. AT&T has comparable coverage in my area and similar prices after discounts. I'll take the ease of GSM phones over CDMA(still use it for voice for the time being) any day. Verizon had superior coverage in the past but not anymore.

I've had unlimited since I signed up with Verizon with my OG Droid lol, I could never get over about 3gb of use because of the 3G slowness. I'd always connect to wifi when possible.

Now I just leave LTE on 24/7 and tend to use about 6-7GB a month.

If they killed the unlimited all together I'd probably examine my options. But until then I'll buy off-contract phones and milk it.

why would anyone use wifi except to save battery. where is wifi faster than even 3g?
