<blink> What, really? It's black with minor chrome highlights. There's nothing bling about it. I put it in my entertainment cabinet and I can't even see it.

You obviously forgot to accessorize with the included gold chains

To each their own, but to me it just looks tacky, like the old PS3s with the "Spider Man" font. If you like it, that's great and I'm happy you like yours, but I've never been a fan of "shiny" electronics. Matte finishes FTW, IMHO.

I lol'd at this. :awe:

I'm usually a matte fan too, but my launch PS3 and new slim 360 don't bother me at all. I think I'd still prefer matte, but I'm content.

Another annoyance (but this applies to all 360s with hdmi... my previous didn't have hdmi):

Anyway, I have a turtle beach wireless headset that requires the Red/white audio cable and i ripped off the cover of the composite cable to use the audio cables. Now, whenever I change inputs on my tv, the xbox restarts. It doesn't do this with only the hdmi cable in though.

Looks like i'm going to have to get one of those official hdmi adapters or just upgrade to the x41's since they have optical input...

Fatpat, this is pretty common when you mod the cable. If you google it, you should find a fix for it involving either cutting a black wire loop or connecting 2 of the pins together. Depends on the cable you are using as to what you gotta do, but it can be fixed so that your 360 doesn't restart every time.

yeah, i read about that... I'll probably try that before buying the official adapter.

Or you can connect the headset's red/white wires to your TV and use your wireless headphones to watch TV too

Tried that, there's so much static through there. a ground loop isolator helped a little bit, but not much.

Playing Fable 2 again is really making me want to pick up one of these new ones. My xbox makes so much noise when reading the disc, which is pretty much all the time with Fable.

The noise never really bothered me until I recently started to pay attention to it. $300 is just too much though, oh well.

I modded my cable and did the scotch tape trick. I cut a tiny sliver of tape and put it over the 28th pin of the connector. It works like a charm!

There's an image of the 28th pin in the following thread on #168: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=924291&page=6

Just a quick dirty rig - what you need is:

1 scotch tape or any other rather thin, self adhesive tape,
1 pair of scissors,
1 pair of tweezers.

Cut a small (like 2mm wide) piece of tape.
Hold it with a tweezers,
Apply tape on pin 28 in the plug.
Plug the cable to your console.
Voila no reset !

A bit unrelated question to avid 360 fans (didn't quite feel like making a whole new thread out of this): I have read with the newest update jasper can take up to two 16gb flash drives... I only see one slot for USB devices. What type of flash drives does it take? Is that something you plug into the "memory unit" ports in the front? TIA!

There are two USB ports on the front.

The new Slim 360 has two USB ports on the front and three on the back. The older ones have two on the front and one on the back.

It will take any USB storage device but only up to 16GBs.

I don't see the point. If mine dies, sure. I don't see the point of replacing a perfectly functioning box.

I thought about trading my old accesories in at gamespot and upgrading. My 2006 console died and m$ wouldn't honor the warranty without a receipt. They based the console age off the mfg date. Anyways... I ended up getting an arcade model at Target for ~$85 after a $50 gift card. I was able to use my existing 120GB HDD and wireless adapter. To me the new slim wasn't worth the extra money.

Turns out, that didn't work at all. The xbox still restarts after switching inputs. Guess I'll try covering up those pins with tape next... :hmm:

Not sure why hdmi on the xbox has to be so difficult with a secondary audio source...

Edit: Even tried the scotch tape on pin 28 of the adapter, didn't work and I don't feel like butchering another cable to do it ( my composite cable didn't even have a pin 28 at all, go figure).

I'll stick with trusty component until I upgrade to an x41 headset with a spdif input.

Edit 2: Turned out I used the audio out that was present on my monitor and used an audio cable from the monitor to the x31 transmitter instead. I feared the static would've been too bad (my monitor has an annoying static from the audio out), but truthfully as a wireless headset there would've been static anyway.

If you're able to sell your old Xbox for a reasonable price, then it's not such a bad deal. Gamestop was giving something like $150 for xbox + controller + HD. So you'd only pay $150 for the bigger harddrive, wireless-n, a quieter machine, and hopefully less chance of red ring/dot failure.

I have an elite, and I would only upgrade if the premium was under $75 bucks or so. I don't think MS released this to encourage "Upgrade" sales but rather to attract some new customers.

If you modded the standard HDTV/SDTV component cable like I did, the cable must be set to SD. I didn't mention it in my post but it is on that long AVS Forum thread.

The piece of scotch tape can't cover any other pins, either. Before I did this my Xbox would reboot every time I switched inputs. I've even removed the cable from my console several times and the tape hasn't come off, yet. F U MS for making such a basic feature a real pain!
