Will you buy Modern Combat 2 for $60-$65 on the PC

Apparently there's a moderate threat of boycotting Modern Combat 2 on the PC due to Activision announcing that they will raise the price to at least $60. As someone not really into the Modern Combat games (the last CoD I bought was CoD2 on the PC), I wonder what the general feeling on this here is.

I gotta say, for me personally, this kind of is bullshit. I don't plan on buying MW2, but one of the reasons companies site the $60 price tag on console titles is due to licensing fees. No such fees are required on the PC platform, so this is basically just Activision (huge surprise here) being greedy.

The sad part will be if Activision or other publishers feel like this is something that was successful, it will not doubt trigger a landslide of new PC games hitting retail, Steam, etc. at the $60 price point.

And if you're primarily a console gamer, I wouldn't be so godamned quick to point and laugh. In the end, if this works, you can be sure it will mean the beginning of phasing console games into the $70 range.

Well said. This is just another example of corporate greed taking it out on the consumer. I'm guessing that Activision figures they can get $60 out of console gamers for Modern Warfare 2, they can make it $60 across the board.

I think if you see MW2 sell reasonable numbers on the PC for $60, you'll see MW3 on consoles next go round for another $10 on the top.

wow...thats just...so wrong.

based on the reaction it's getting, MW2 will sell well despite its price hike.

The first two were great, everything after that became consolized POSs.

I will definitely not be purchasing this game if they sell it for $60... I don't think I was really planning on buying it anyways.

I see some PC game prices going up already. Checked Amazon.com today and preorder for Mass Effect 2 is $59.99.

Given how short the single player was on COD4, I figure they still owe me about 4-5 hours of game play. I doubt I will be buying it new. I may pick it up on the used market or in the bargain bin if I can get it for $20 or less. I will probably be waiting awhile.

$60? Nope. I got 6 hours out of COD4's campaign... 6 hours of linear, simplistic on-rails arcade gameplay. It wasn't a bad game for what it was by any stretch of the imagination - I just didn't feel like I got my money's worth.

Well COD 4 has been out like 2 years already and it still retails for around $40, With it costing $60 now, they'll probably lower it to $50 and leave it that way. I bought COD 4 for $50 and I only played it like 3 times, I will definitely not be getting MC2.

One of the biggest reasons devs site for moving away from the PC is because of lower profits. A mix of pirating, less user base, and other things can be blamed for it but it's no mystery that there's more money in the consoles. This is just a way to get some more money flowing from the PC crowd. While it costs a bit more initially for each gamer, it could spark more interest in PC gaming again if profits are boosted.

Now a bunch of you cheap fucks boycott the game, they lose even more money, and then another dev moves away from the PC market. You guys are single handedly ruining PC gaming for yourselves. Anybody who bitches about the price are not allowed to bitch about lack of PC support ever again.

probably not, one reason why i skipped cod5 waw was the price. if it drops to somewhere in the 30's i might buy it.

they should really considering selling more copies at a lower price.

remember when valve said they made more money during the L4D sale then they did offering it at full price? and i think they said it wasn't even close.

the economy is doing bad, everyone is selling shit cheap except these game devs who want every penny and more. they just don't get it.

Hell no, $60 is an outrage and it would not help with piracy rates at all, especially considering the economy isn't the best.

Thumbs down Activison and EA (for putting ME2 preorder for 59.99)
