Will you purchase the 7800GTX ?

I want to see what the R520 can deliver. And for the first time, I am actually considering going console for a year or two, until PC hardware catches up.

catches up? Xbox 360 isn't out for like 6 months and PS3 isn't comming out for another year and your going to wait a year or two after these consoles come out? PC hard ware will blow them away by then.

well i just started a new job where i will be making around 900 a week (old job was around 160 a week) so more than likely i will be picking one up shortly along with a athlon 64 x2 4400+. will more than likely get another after a few months or so.

Funny right? I just spent 100 dollars on a 939 Asus AGP with a PCI/AGP lock 4 months ago because I had a AGP 6800 GT. Now I have to get myself a 939 PCI-E SLI mobo. Sadly there is all ready talks about PCI-E II in the works but hopefully it will be cross compatible.

And I want to see the prices go down when it arrives. Right now Nvidia can charge whatever they like.

The 360 will blow away the 7800 and likely the R520 in raw processing power when it first comes out, not in small part because applications will be customized for its processor. But I was talking about more than just performance. While pc hardware will probably never offer the same price/performance ratio as consoles, I want it to be a lot closer before I consider dropping another couple grand into an upgrade.

It's funny. I bought a awesome ASUS board (AGP+PCI), a old 478 Prescott, and a X800 Pro, and then a month after everything was put together, out pops PCI express and LGA-775. GODDAMNIT, this whole computer thing never slows down.<--

Not sure why somone would get this card when you can get a 6800GT for 1/2 the price unless $600 is not a big deal, which actually for some people it's not.
But for the majority of us, IMO a 6800GT is a much, much better choice.

what is the price status on this card? Is it going to drop in the future? $600 is a first time deal, cards have always had the $400 standard.

I wouldnt be able to upgrade to 7800 if I wanted to. I'm still on AGP and I would have to upgrade my whole system, making it a very, very expensive upgrade.
