Win 10 build 1709 and .Net 3.5

My computer suffered a breakdown: it could not see its C: drive. Now, on other machines I could see it and its directory structure just fine. So I recued the file with my work in it, and did a clean intallof Win 10-64. Now MS wanted to update the OS. OK. Runs just fine now.

I tried to install the HIDTemperUSB thermometer. That requires .Net 3.5. Trouble is, when I tried to install that I get a resource-not-found error. MS knows it is a problem. They have a fix so complicated I can't get my head around it. Anyone know a fix?

"try it with DISM,

insert the installation media of windows 10 / mount the iso,

open a command prompt as an administrator and execute (you maybe need to modify the source: F:\sources\sxs to point to your mounted iso/installation media) :

Dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFx3 /All /Source:F:\sources\sxs /LimitAccess

(That command line can be copied and pasted.)

all I did was go to Programs and Features and clicked Turn Windows Features on and off.

expand .Net Framework 3.5 and check off Windows Communication Foundation Non-HTTP Activation.

Then click Ok.

@vailr: That is simpler than the quotes I found. Thanks. But it is the advice I did not want to follow, and I could not find DISM.

Murphy's Law: when you ask for help is when you solve your problem. (If you don't ask for help you cannot solve it.)

So I went to Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off. Now, I had earlier tried to turn on .Net 3.5 there; doing so failed. Then I read that .Net 3.5 is included in .Net 4. So I returned to the Control Panel and found .Net 4.7. So I told it to turn on .Net 3.5 and 4.7. That worked!!! Much simpler.

One caveat: I had the DVD with the installation disk plugged in. So it is possible that the installer found the resource there. But I did not hear it grinding. And it happened at SSD speed, not ODD speed, so I think the .Net 4.7 trick worked.

If other people run into non-installation or .Net 3.5 in Windows 10 Build 1709, try turning on whatever .Net 4.x you have. I don't know if telling the CP to turn on .Net 3.5 was also necessary; I'm happy to have my software working again.

I tried that. That approach failed me, though it sounds like it worked for you.

@vailr I could not find DISM.

DISM isn't something to "find"; if you read the instructions, you simply copy and paste that line of code into an elevated command prompt.
That line of code again is:
Dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFx3 /All /Source:F:\sources\sxs /LimitAccess

If your Windows installation source is on a drive other than drive "F", then replace "F" with the appropriate letter. A Windows .iso file can also be used for the purpose, after it's mounted and assigned a drive letter.
It's actually fairly simple.
