Win 2K questions. This is driving me nuts!!

And it seems so simple too.

1. How the HECK do I turn of the beeping!!! I have no sound card and have set the system sound events scheme to "No Sounds", yet the beeps still happen on emtying the trash, anytime a message box comes up, and many other places. I am about ready to disconnect the speaker. Any suggestions?

2. How do I have the numlock key set to ON when I boot up my machine? In the BIOS is is set to be on. Once I get to the win2k load splash screen it turns off. I looked in the help section and there is no mention of it. Any suggestions on this one?

I know these are reletively small problems but they are annoying the heck out of me. Any help would be appreciated.

You can turn the beep off in the BIOS. There may be a way to do it within Windows, but I've always done it that way.

Boot with Numlock on. You'll need to scroll down.

Huh??? If you have no sound card, then what the heck do you have your speakers plugged into???

Are you sure that the num-lock key is actually off??? I've had that problem as well. I turn on my computer, the numlock key appears to be on, and the light goes out as soon as Windows loads. Numlock is still on though. Try loading notepad and using the keys first.

Go to your MMC control for system services. Change the status of the system Beep service from Automatic to Manual. Then stop the service if you want.

Ceraph: The closest I could find in the system setting was System Event Notification. I could not find a System Beep service. Am I in the right area? Can you write some steps to get to the correct spot If I am not there?

Cenalian: I am talking about the system speaker. Sorry I should have clarified that.

Psychoholic: Thank you!! The numlock works like a charm and that site has a ton of great information. I could not, however, find any reference to notifications or the system speaker in the BIOS. What section do you find it under?

Don't have Win2k installed here at work, but I'll look more into the beeping when I get home (providing you don't already have it solved by then)

Mainly because I had an issue at some point.. hmm.. maybe you had to do it through the registry...

Try searching your registry for &quot;beep&quot; -- at some point I did it =) But I can't remember now.
