I have been considering upgrading to Win 2K's Service Pack 2. I'm not really sure why, I guess I'm just feeling dangerous, Service Pack 1 has been working great since it came out, and like the wise man said, "if it aint broke, dont fix it"
However, some part about me just wants to be dangerous.
How about any of you, are you running Service Pack 2?
and if so what sort of luck have you had with it?

Installed SP2 after a format and clean install (win2k pro). No problems at all, everything is working nicely.

Service Pack 1 was perfect for me as well, but I upgraded to SP2 anyway. So far no problems.

Awsome! If I keep getting replys like this I think I just might upgrade, I read on the Microsoft site that SP2 is supposed to be more compatable with programs, hardware, etc...
Why hasnt Microsoft done this good of a job with any of it's older OS's, I remember upgrading SP's on NT, that was a nightmare, half the time I just wanted to go back to an older one, and I couldnt uninstall, and it never worked right, what a pain, but it looks like 2K is holding solid so far!
Maybe all this linux competition is going to their heads?

Win2k Service Pack 2 works fine as long as everything was working fine before it was installed. I had an error with my winsock.dll caused by IIS before upgrading to SP2 the first time. After the install I was was no longer able to view the properties on any of my drives or folders. Once I uninstalled and reinstalled IIS, the Service Pack worked fine.

yup. I think that the linux competition is making them yank up there pants. I installed win2k advanced server last night.. and just like a linux install, it asked me for my network info in the setup.. GOOD! It was about time. Nowadays.. as soon as your install is done, you are on the net looking for drivers and whatnot.. you don't want to have to fix the network properties.. reboot.. then get on the net.. especially with the amount of time it takes win2k to boot up. Oh well, I like win2k.. I can safely say it and not feel shame. I still like linux more though.. (only I'm more familiar with win, I am gettin there)

<edit>
and yeah, SP2 = good so far

SP 2 works on every computer I have installed it on (half a dozen or so), some clean installs, some existing machines. Actually on the existing machines it cleared up some erroronias errors I was getting in my event log

muahahaha, that is what you all think. SP2 won't update any of the drivers unless it is slipstreamed in.

Yep, going strong here too. Now I have a slipstreamed copy of W2K, so on my next format I'll have the latest drivers. w00t!

Just installed a slipstreamed W2K Pro with SP2 and everything is awesome. Setup with all the new drivers and no hiccups to date!

The old adage holds true, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If a particular SP is working out for you, stick with it. The only exception would be for a security fix that is critical to the way that you use your computer.

Patently false.

SP2 will update any Microsoft drivers you have on your system (for which there are SP2 updates, of course).

Don't believe me? Install SP2 and check the datestamp of the *.sys (these are driver files) in \winnt\system32\drivers. The drivers dated 5/4/01 are SP2.

To determine what SP is on your system, go to Start, Run... and type "winver" and hit Enter.

But if you end up installing new hardware, the dirvers won't be updated unless you reapply the service pack, or the drivers had been slipstreamed into the install.
