Win 2k3 Server NIC issue

Hey All. I just installed Win2k3 on an old Dell box I have. 2.4 p4 with 1 gig and an onboard NIC. The NIC is an Intel PRO/100 VE NIC. This NIC previously worked without issue under WinXP. In terms of the physical hardware, I am quite certain nothing is defective. As I mentioned, it is onboard. Win2k3 installed the drivers for this NIC automatically during installation, and device manager states the device is working properly.

In any case, I cannot get to the gateway nor can i get to the any of the nodes on the network. Strangely, i CAN get to the switch and the switch can get to this box. My router cannot ping win2k3 node successfully.
I have uninstalled the NIC in dev mgr, and searched for a driver that would work from intel however to not avail.

Is this a nic compatibility issue or something else?

Currently, I am using my dlink wireless card to access the internet with this node which works fine...however this is just not going to cut it...any suggestions?

oh..also, i have tried numerous switch ports and cables...however, both the cable and this port work fine with a differnent PC...

Lastly, if i go to my LAN properties, packets are being sent, nothing received..

Are you sure the machine is getting a valid IP address? Is DHCP turned on for this NIC? If your getting an IP address like 169.x.x.x then your not getting a valid IP. The packets being sent out could be DHCP requests that go unanswered.

Chunkee - unfortunately, i think that is what must be done.

mikecel - DHCP is not on, therefore I am certain the IP is valid. The gateway and DNS are correct as well...As I mentioned I can ping from the switch interface to the node, and vice versa...however I cannot ping from the router interface to the node.

any other ideas guys? [before i go buy a nic]

If you have DHCP turned on for your router then let the machine get an address via DHCP and see if it works. If you are able to ping the switch and get a response back then the NIC is working.

Agreed; if the NIC is up and you can ping another device on the network (but not past it) than your problem sounds a lot more like a routing or other lower-network level issue.

From what you've mentioned here so far it doesnt really sound like a Server or NIC issue. I would focus my efforts on the switch (i.e. you're on a differant vlan, etc.)
