Try check the bios for mempry mapping or something similar of PCIe resources. And try see if there is a BIOS update.

I had a similar issue and for me it was "Memory Hole Remapping". Least if I'm remembering correctly..

Just to clarify, you've installed 8Gb of RAM, the system sees 6Gb installed but only 3.98 is usable?

Is this a 4 x 2Gb kit of RAM? I had a similar situation where my system only detected 6Gb of the 8Gb I installed because one of my motherboards RAM slots were dead.

Have you varified each stick of RAM and each slot on the motherboard is working? Once we know the RAM and motherboard work fine we should be able to isolate it to a windows/software problem of some sort.

Open up task manager and go to the performance tab, what does it say under physical memory total?

Sometimes the memory module is not fully seated in the motherboard. But it's in just enough to show up as detected, but not usable.

So just do a quick check by re-seating all the RAM, see if any are a little off and take them out and re-insert them. Hopefully then all 8 GB will show up as usable.

problem solved was the memory slots change them again to slots 3 and 4 and now again recognizes the 8 gb, with 5.25 gb usable. I have to know what happened with slots 1 and 2

The problem isn't really solved, if the machine can only use 5 GB out of 8... am I missing something here?
