This is a follow up to the same problem I posted in another thread. http://www.portvapes.co.uk/?id=Latest-exam-1Z0-876-Dumps&exid=threads/computer-consantly-searching-for-updates.2488784/

Working on 7 plus year old laptop. 250 gig hdd, 4gig ram and a celeron cpu. Problem was maching was extremely slow. Cpu constantly ran at 100%. Found updates had not been done in over 9 months. Tried to run win updates and machine sat for over a day without doing anything.
I did a format and clean install using disks from manufacturer Ran check for updates and it downloaded a few and installed. Ran check for updates again and,,,, got a message saying need to download a certain update to continue. I did that and,,, after that update installed,,, machine froze again while checking updates. (could not delete that last update, or go back using restore point.
Did another clean install. After install was done, I turned off updates. (never check for updates) Also, never set up wifi. Using another machine I downloaded SP! t to a usb stick and then installed it on the affected machine.
At this point, using another machine, can I download this rollup to a usb flash and install it on the affected pc?

I want to keep the auto updates out of the picture till I have all the latest updates installed.

Am I ok with this or,,, is there a better way to do this???

Actually is a little more complicated than that. This assumes you are already starting from Service Pack 1 base (install SP1 for Windows 7 if not already). In Windows Update settings, turn off Windows Updates checking ("Never check for updates"), disconnect from the internet (or disable network adapter), then install:

1. Windows Update Agent 7.x (link)
2. April 2015 Servicing Stack (link)
3. August 2016 Update Rollup (link)

Do NOT defer any restart prompts. i.e. If prompted to restart, restart now not later. If you want to include the large SP2-esque Convenience Rollup, I would recommend doing it for Step #3 then move August 2016 Update Rollup to #4.

After complete, connect to internet or network again, turn Updates Checking back on to your preference such as 'Automatically check' or 'Download but let me choose updates to install'.
