Hey guys,
Ive come into a big problem that I just cant figure out. I just reformated my hd and installed win 98, followed by win 2k in dual boot mode. The installation went fine, except for my sound card. In win 98, sound does not play. It looks like my volume is just muted when I try to play mp3s or anything, because I get no error message, and the volume controller shows the wave balance sound levels going up and down. Yet no sound comes out. And when I boot to win 2k, the sound works fine. I have tried installing the latest sound card drivers, removing my modem (which shared IRQ 9 with the SB), but no of that worked. I imagine the problem is related to IRQs or something. The 2 USB ports are also on IRQ 9. Before I installed win 2k, the sound did work in win 98.
So I guess Im getting at 2 things here.
First, anyone experienced anything remotely like this or have any ideas?
and second, I believe the problem might be related to the IRQ settings from the win 2k installation. Under device manager, my comp. is listed as a standard PC. I remember reading something about that creating IRQ problems a while ago, and a way to have windows redetect and reset all the IRQs, at the cost of having to reinstall all my drivers. Anyone know how to do this?
I also have a Voodoo 3500 which could be part of the problem.
Thanks for any help anyone can give me,
Scaromanga
