Darn I was hoping they would slip and give us some launch info in that link.

"The potential winners will be notified on or about April 15, 2003."
"System will be delivered after the AMD Athlon 64 processor has launched."

Still no date. Well it does give one date - probably after April 15.

Thanks for the link. Hopefully the winner will get their system before Q2 2004!

Ridiculously short-sighted survey IMO. Where the hell was Jackie Robinson?

I mean really, lets list every ethnic minority to ever accomplish something in baseball, yet not bother to name the player that opened the door for all of them? Anyways, I brought it to their attention

with htis survey linked here, im not suprised.

Top three responses so far:
20% 1977: "Star Wars" introduces the world to Jedi and the Empire.
13% 1964: The Beatles launch the "British Invasion" and debut on "The Ed Sullivan Show."
11% 1503: Italian Leonardo da Vinci paints the Mona Lisa.

Interesting questions. They should have had those kinds of questions, discussions and research in school...

Ok, I maybe wrong about Lance Armstrong (I felt he was inspirational), I thought Michelangelo's David was more important (it still creates lots of controversy (sic?), and a beautiful work of art), but paper?! Come on, how could any of the rest come without the all important paper?! I mean Gutenberg had to do work on paper before he could make his printing press, right? How could there be a transistor without paper to do all the calculations? How could Einstein write his theories without paper to write on? How could there be Star Wars without paper for a script to be printed on? Or do I not know what I'm talking about. I still stick with paper as all important...

Sorry buddy, but paper just isn't that ground breaking. Vellum (the animal hide stuff) and papyrus came before what we now know as paper. Paper just was an incremental upgrade. The way I see that category, Gutenburg and the printing press take the cake. For the first time in history, the masses could be educated relatively easily. The printing press set the standard for all of the following forms of mass-distribution of information, such as the telephone, radio, and computer.

BTW, my other answers were Jordan and the Bulls and the Mona Lisa. The Mona Lisa is quite debatable though. I've seen the David and the Sistine Chapel in person, and they were absolutely amazing!

Why is Neil Armstrong so important? What about the people that worked on the Lunar Module, Command Module, and all the other parts and planned the trip? I put Pele/something random for art/Einstein, but I think Gutenberg's press helped set off almost all subsequent discoveries but it wasn't really that amazing. I was thinking of putting him though.

Indeed! And where are the Wright brothers? I picked Galileo over Einstein/Relativity, since Lorenz had pretty much worked out the same results at the time. Galileo really put his b*lls on the line.
