Win ME Reg/Config Error

My friend rebooted his desktop running ME today and now when it gets to the windows background it freezes with no programs running. This occurs in safe mode and normal mode. After booting in normal mode it detects new hardware, can't find any drivers and then brings up a SURegCreateKey failed error and holds with the background up. He doesn't have a boot disk or anything helpful. Any ideas? Thanks.

When first installing Win ME the install program asks you to create an emergency boot disk. A 1.44 floppy disks costs about 25 cents. So what do you think he/you saved when deciding to not create the emergency boot disk?

You can still create an emergency boot disk. How to:

Click on Start/Settings/Control Panel. (in Win ME)

In Control panel select ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS

In that menu you will see a menu tab titled STARTUP disk. Select that tab and select the CREATE DISK button. Then follow the instructions on how to create a self booting emergency disk. It also sets up your CD ROM drive so you can reinstall Win ME over itself using your CD ROM install CD. Reinstalling ME over itself most often will correct whatever problems you are having with it.

Since you cannot boot up your Win ME successfully maybe you have a friend who has installed WinME. Go to your friend's computer and create the floppy emergency boot disk. Then you can use that emergency boot disk on your computer.
