Win XP reboot issues

Greetings all,

mobo epox ep8k7a newest bios update.
xp 1600 cpu
ram 384md ddr
nvidia GForce 3 64mb
ls 120
ricoh burner
win xp pro
aureal audio

Fresh install on wd600 60g hd, create partion ntfs, quick or regular format, XP starts to load gets to first reboot and gives "error loading operating system". I can use a 40g, 20g, or 4g hd and all loads fine.
I have tried 3 new WD600 and same result each time. When this happens the hd is killed. WD Diags will not recognize the Hd any more.

Any suggestions appreciated.

the hd dies each and every time?
is it on the same controller/position (slave/master) and molex each time?

try the 2gb on teh same position/controller/molex ?

i am running the hard drives all on same controller and cables.
One of the 60g hd's was running 98se just fine.
Then the upgrade began.
