Win xp slow startup

Everytime i start my computer, there seems to be a 3-4 min lag time before all the little icon from the bottom left corner of my screen appear. Before those icons (i.e Norton AV) would load up immediately when my desktop appears, now it takes forever and while i am waiting for the stuff to load up, i can't open anything but i can right click with mouse and get the display properties screen to appear. I am afraid someone is trying to hack into my computer because i have DSL. What should i do to check what the problem is for this lag. Any help is appreciated.

Left click start button.
Select Run.
Type msconfig.
Left click OK.
Under general tab select Normal startup.
Left click Apply.
Left click OK.
Reboot.

I did what u said but it still has the same problem. I've check the latest forum and there was someone who said it was the latest geforce driver. I recently downloaded the latest driver so i think it might be it. THanks for ur help though!

Are you running a firewall of any type?

You may be infected with the Nachi worm already if your on DSL without some type of protection.

Keep posting if your driver solution doesn't work.

I've done a full scan and no virus was detected. I think the problem is from Norton antivirus cause when i uninstalled it my computer started up quicker but not as quick as before. I've read alot bout the recent lag in startup but i didn't seem to come up with an answer. I think i am going to reinstall my graphic driver again but i dont know if it would help.
