i have a laptop running win xp media center and a desktop running win xp pro.

it keeps saying access is denied when i attempt to view a share on the desktop.

everything pings ok. it sees the share but when it open it it says access is denied.

how can i create a user on the desktop that will match the laptop user name.. when i try to goto teh share permissions on teh desktop.. it will not let me create \xxxDesktop\LaptopUser..

what can I do?

thanks in advance

1. go to my computer
2. go to tools>folder options
3. go to the view tab
4. scroll all the way down
5. Make sure the 'use simple file sharing' tab is checked.
6. close all of the that
7. right click on the folder that you want to share and share it

And make sure that you have the Guest account enabled! (I think SP2 disables it.) Although the downside to this networking method is that there is no authentication and your files are more exposed.

Instead I disable Simple File Sharing and made each computer a shared account for file sharing with a 64 character password. Then I entered that password for each computer under the Network Passwords in My Accounts. Works pretty well...
