Somehow wxp_pro_rc1.iso ended up on my machine.
How do I check the integrity of the file? How do you use or what exactly is crc?
After burning it to disc, it goes 3/4 of the way through the install, then says some files are missing...heck...now what?

I hate it when huge files like that end up on my computer. So pesky...

The irony is, I have the disk for all my MP3's and even paid for the license to my copy of PKzip.
I would buy XP, but it is nto for sale yet.
so....

<< Well, mistake # 1 is posting this >>

For the sake of this forum, this is all hypothitical ..
And, even in the hypothetical, it is a licensed copy throuhg the best testing program.

For the "sake" of this forum, I better not see any links or instructions in this thread about where to get this "hypothetical" .iso file.

NP.

All I want to know is how to check the integrity of a file after it has been downloaded and after it has been burned.

anyone?

Surely there is a way to check the integrity a DL and of a burn.

i happened to get the same file on my harddrive... i dunno how! :Q

I burned it out of "curiosity" and ran it, just to see what it did... It got an error copying files liek 20% through, it stopped copying, and now it works fine. WTF, but hey, as long as it works

glen,

I think the software verifies the integrity of the burn as it's working. I know that whenever I've had a problem with a corrupted Linux .iso, Adaptec 4.0 has stopped the burn and barfed up an error.

Whenever it has gone all the way through, the CD has always worked.

It happened once.
I re-burned and it happened again.
Maybe I will just try it a few more times.

You could have paid $10 several months ago to be a beta tester. Just for the sake of it, I paid the money and became a beta tester. M$'s download servers for RC1 are heavily congested, so I can't say that I've tested it yet.

CRC is a way to test for a files integrity. You can download programs that check an .iso file, but you have to have a .crc file I believe.

That's all I'm saying, I hope I haven't helped anyone with this "hypothetical" iso file.

it works... try reburning it OR use IsoBuster to extract and INSTALL IT FROM THE HARDDRIVE...

This is insane. Why must you pay for beta testing an unfinished product?
So what's the next step? will we have to pay for knowing what new "features" the next version of Windows will add?

Check if its size is: 493 MB (517,349,376 bytes)

Burning it with Nero didn't work for me. It completed the burn, but it would give errors when installing it. (did this with 3 versions of XP) I tried burning the .ISO with Fireburner, which is much better than Nero for these files, and it worked flawlessly...

If I look under properties, it says:
489MB (513,177,600 bytes), 513,179,648 bytes used
is that the wrong size?

Well it costs money to make and ship the CD's... $10 gets you two shipment of CDs, or $5 per CD. $5 for a burnt CD of something isn't a bad price I dont think...
