<< Well it costs money to make and ship the CD's... $10 gets you two shipment of CDs, or $5 per CD. $5 for a burnt CD of something isn't a bad price I dont think... >>

It's 10$ for the download, and 10$ extra for the RC1 CD ONLY. So that's not 5$/CD, but 20$/CD.

glen,
it's possible we don't have the same version. I got it before it was even posted on the MS site... I'd try burning it with Fireburner , as it's the best for ISO and BIN/CUE, if it doesn't work, then I guess the file is corrupt. You could also try ISObuster to extract it to your hard drive, and run the install from there...

My bad... I was under the assumption that the $10 fee got you CD's of both RC1 and RC2. Guess not

Version that appeared on my machine was a discjugglar format. Bootable CD after burning and it installed fine. First impressions were real bad but once you turn off half the excess bloat it looks like XP might be ok.

3 attempted installs and 3 uninstalls.
The error message says this:

SXS Installation Failed: D:\I386\asms. Error Message : Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

***

Fatal Error:
One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed.

Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

If you are installing from a CD, there might be a problem with the disc; try cleaning the disc or using another disc.

If you are installing from the network, it is possible that not all of the files were copied correctly to your disk drive. Run the disk checking utility on your installation drive from the Recovery Console and start setup again.

If Bill has a corrpt decoy file out there, LOL!
Heck, this why I never do this... I would pay for the program to avoid this hassle.
Put it this way, my hourly rate times 6 hours is more than 99% of the software out there.

well hypothetically speaking, you can always extract the iso to somewhere on the hd, then reboot with a bootdisk or something and install from the HD.

weird...

I got a very similar problem when I tried installing XP for the first time. I was burning it with Nero and the same file always came up corrupt during the install. The file was \i386\asms\6000\msft\windows\common\controls\controls.man

This happened for builds 2481, 2404 and 2405 (rc1). I tried burning 2505 with Fireburner, and it worked the first time. Maybe there's a setting that's not right in Fireburner... Also, what burner do you have, and did you download Fireburner 2 BETA, or the older version?

Nero will burn the iso image just fine, thats all I use to burn ISO's. You have to make sure that in the options you have it set to finalize the cd.

Microsoft has created a CRC.exe and has install instructions here: Instructions Link

BTW: RC1 is out and official just pay $10 and you can download it, sign up here: Preview Program

MS has a way of verifiying the CD file.
But, I have to use DOS.
WTF?
when I am in DOS, it says something like C:windows>
How the 7uck do I get it to c: ?
And is that even what I need to do?
Here are the MS instructions, "To verify the CD after burning: Open an MS-DOS prompt and run ?CRC x:? where x: is the cdrom drive letter."

This means that you do not have the drivers running for your CD-ROM drive in dos, you need cdrom support so that you can use it in dos my friend
