Now MS is trying to install their NSA spying software on win7, win8 and win8.1 through their updates.

I suggest if you are running win 8.1 and older to COMPLETELY DISABLE win updates!

And make sure your tinfoil hats are secure as well.

SMFH.

You all making these empty allegations need to focus. MS has been VERY transparent about what they collect and why. Prove them wrong or STFU. When turning off Cortana you see packets heading to MS servers for Cortana? So tell us oh wise ones what data are they stealing? Bank log ins? Mining your porn collection? Please. Do you honestly think they could continue in todays day and age if they did that? Seriously?

And if you think your beloved Windows 7 is any better, you obviously havent read THAT EULA either. I suggest you read my entire post HERE and educate yourself.

In today's day and age people want their PC's/phones/tablets/etc to do more and more for them. Google has Google Now, Apple has Siri, and now MS has Cortana. And hey guess what? If you want Cortana to remind you about an appointment, it needs access to, you know, your calendar. Dont like it? Turn it off and dont use the service.

Honestly this is getting old.

You're ok about your computer sending encrypted data containing unidentified information to a company?

That's fine, but you understand why others might not be so happy?

I can only speak for MY computer. I also ran wireshark (which Im proficient at since I use it almost every day for work) and I could not replicate the popular screenshots/video going around. *shrug* To each their own I guess.

edit: Also, I have yet to see someone run a wireshark trace on a Windows 7 box. You *do* know how much data MS collects in Win7, right?

More fear mongering.....
MSN has been very transparent concerning what information they use!!

To suggest they are not being truthful is foolhardy on your part!!

Considering we have it as fact that the NSA is backdoored into MS, Google, Facebook etc. etc., it's naive not to believe all the data trawling by Win 10 is not being fed back to them.

Win 10 has a keylogger built in. Anyone running this OS and not crippling all spyware functionality and blocking all outbound data delivery to MS is a fool.

Yes, they are going to collect everything and use it however they please. That definitely IS straightforward enough.

links....

Are you kidding ? This is old and prominent news and available all over the place. If you're not aware or can't find it for yourself it probably falls into the category of selective ignorance.

The question to ask is not if the data is used by the government or other malicious purposes, but if it's possible. The minute that data is outside the confines of your own secure network, the answer is yes. I don't want the data getting off my network in first place. It's bad enough that the NSA/CSIS and other agencies are tracking every move I do outside my network, I want to at least feel secure inside of it. Win10/telemetry is equivalent to installing cameras inside your house that are controlled and viewed by a 3rd party. You have no way of knowing who is watching you.

Win10 is NSA's wet dream. Its 1984 on steroids. Its Hitlers hard on.

Apps spy on you, cortana spies on you, even basic search spies on you, telemetry spies on you, they log your key strokes, automated updates that can't be stopped, searching and analyzing your hard drive for "pirated" software, directed ads on all the programs you are using, geo data, personal data, business data, etc... its all collected and sent to microsoft.

You mean the telemetry you can turn off?

If thats the case, why are you posting here? Just unplug already...

You want ne to do your work for you...you are not that obtuse.....

Instead of doing your own reading and research you are jumping on the bandwagon without knowing what you are talking about!!

It's just that you sounded like you really knew what data was being uploaded. It seems churlish for you not to share.

Well I know that windows is uploading something to Microsoft from my PC. You don't think that I should know exactly what data that is and be able to give informed consent to its sharing?

They backported some of the telemetry functionality as Win7 and 8.1 recommended updates:

I've since uninstalled/hidden and changed my Windows Update setting to ask to download only important (read: security) updates.
