It IS set to go to sleep. I set this again, but it stays on. I can tell because the machine is quite warm when I raise the lid. Plus, I just closed the lid with video playing and the sound continues. So, I just set it to sleep after one minute of no activity. Closed the lid and after one minute there was 1/2 second of silence and the sound then continued.

How can I fix this?

So, just installed MWB Free, which gives Premium for 14 days then lapses to Free. It wants to scan (not the deep) and I did it, took ~2 minutes. It found 1 item: PUP.Optional.BundleInstaller

I'll have it quarantine it, as offered.

custom scan with Malwarebytes free, select the entire drive and tick the rootkits option. It's CPU intensive (at least 4 cores) and will take a while.
I just initialized that custom scan. I didn't see an option to "Scan now," so I scheduled it for 2 minutes in the future. I didn't tick quarantine on discovery, so I presume when it's over if it finds stuff it will offer quarantine then. I ticked root kits and selected both my local drives, C and D.

Before setting up the custom scan I quarantined that one item found on the quick scan and rechecked that Sleep wasn't happening, then rebooted and checked again.

It shows what it found when the scan completes and will give you the choice of quarantine.

Re your previous scan - I wouldn't worry about PUP, it's the mildest classification of malware, things like an unwanted search engine addition to a browser.

So, the last week or so I have it set to hibernate when closing the lid. Hmm. IIRC energy consumption went to zero before when I did that. This week I get maybe 1 watt give or take. But the last couple days I approach the machine and WTF, it's quite warm and the LED, which is supposed to be dark is red. I check energy and it's ~6 watts used, so definitely it has come out of hibernation. This machine is screwed up. I figure the next step is reinstall Windows somehow...

Download Windows Media Creation tool. Use it to create ISO. Write the ISO to USB using Rufus. Boot from USB. Wipe all partitions (if you don't have anything important on it), click next and wait till you get the screen that asks you to connect to internet. Press Shift+F10. In the CMD window, type taskmgr and enter. In the processes tab, kill Network Connection Flow. This allows you to bypass creating the Microsoft online account. That's it. Nothing too hard.

I'll give that a try, thanks.
Took maybe 3 minutes. The CMD prompt reported this:

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them. For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located at windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For offline repairs, details are included in the log file provided by the /OFFLOGFILE flag.

I don't recall ever seeing that after running sfc /scannow. I've run it maybe 1/2 dozen times before.

I found the CBS.log file and had a look. It's humongous big. Well, I'll see if the machine will go into sleep now.

Changed the setting, closed lid and after over a minute did not go to sleep. I'll reboot and see if that makes a difference.
That did make a difference. I rebooted, closed the lid and the indicator lamp behaved like it should, glowing on, transitioning to off, transitioning back to on, the cycle being about 7-8 seconds, I guess. Just like my other P1 laptop. The difference is that my other P1 (version 1), shows energy draw in suspend of about 0.85 watts but this P1 (version 3) is showing way higher, about 5x higher, averaging (I'd say) 3.6 watts.

I save the above post, close the lid again (only Chrome is open) and after 2+ minutes the machine does not go to sleep. Energy use is ~36 watts, and I reopen the lid and post this.

Around an hour later about 16watts being drawn. Only Chrome open. I close the lid, energy draw doubles, won't go to sleep. I'm changing it back to hibernation on lid close. It usually puts it in a 0.00w power draw after a few seconds. When I find the time I guess I'll try the Win10 reinstall.
