Win2K and ICQ as a user. - FIXED

It would not install from a user and had to be installed from an admin. now I can't even load it as a user, what gives. How can we use this as a user ?

Can't you shift and right-click on it so that RunAs thing shows up? I never actually used that feature because I'm always in Admin but I believe you can then type in the admin password so you can run the program from user.

I have the same issue. I installed as admin but it only runs under admin. Copying the shortcut to the users desktop doesn't make any difference either. I get a run-time error when trying to run the application. I have also installed using Run as while logged in as the user. Still get the run-time error when trying to run the app.

Ahh now this little hurdle.

Install it under admin. Then run it under desired user, take a note of all error messages. In the message there should be a reference to a file. Remember it. Login as admin again, go to that file and change its permission to let that particular user have full control too (read write change blah blah blah). Continue doing this until there are no error messages. Hey presto it works!

Note I did this at the beginning of this year so I may have misremembered it. Now thinking about it I even could have installed under a non-admin user, but I'm sure I had to do the permission thingo. The files you have to change are under the Winnt folder if I remember rightly.

Get back to me if you have problems, I will try to remember better .

I tried your suggestion. I gave the user Full Control rights to the icq.exe file...still get the error. Here is the error in all of it's glory:

Runtime Error!
Program: C:\Program Files\ICQ\Icq.exe
abnormal program termination

You might have to change from user to power user.

Edit: Nevermind, mine works under a user account.

My user is in the Power user group. I can launch it with Run as when logged on as a Power user but that is not acceptable to me.

You'd think that icq would have fix this by now. jeeez.

FIXED: When logged in as Administrator goto start settings control panel users and passwords. change the Power User that you want to use the ICQ to Administrator.

login as with user account (now administrator) re-install ICQ reboot, do all your settings reboot.

make sure ICQ is working fine with user account, log in as admin again, goto control panel users and passwords and put user back to power user.

I'm now loged in as power user and running icq fine now.
