Win2k BSOD -- IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

This is VERY strange.........
**PLEASE** help if you can. ALL ideas are appreciated!

Here it is ............

I try to goto http://www.pogo.com to play online CHESS.
When i click JOIN or WATCH game, it immediatly Blue-Screen-Of-Death's with an error saying "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL".
Here is my hardware / software setup.


ABIT KG7-LITE w/ 4J BIOS (latest bios on abit's site)

AMD ServicePack. Installed AGP Driver.
Internet Explorer 6.0 (I also tried with the default 5.5)
Latest DirectX
Java Runtime Environment 1.3.1 (from java.sun.com --- Yes, I shouldn't need to go this far, but I did!)
* ALL Updates from http://www.windowsupdate.com


Other programs such as Microsoft Office, Outlook Express, StarSiege Tribes 1, Half-Life (Counter-Strike), Age Of Empires II, etc. all seem to work okay, but WHY does this thing BSOD my system.

BTW, at first it didnt just BSOD , it actually ................. REBOOTED my PC! As soon as I hit JOIN it would BLACK SCREEN and reboot.


* Is this possibly slot order?
* Is this possibly Drivers? I have them all though dont I? I have even formatted multiple times and tried all these drivers in different order, sometiems with NO drivers, then one-by-one, each time it fails.
* Is it a setting in the BIOS?
* Is a piece of my hardware possibly not compatible?
* anything else????


PLEASE -- any help you can give is apprecaited, any ideas. anything

happened to me in a way, it gave me that error during setup. might have bad memory.

is your system overclocked?

System is not overclocked.
It is all new hardware I put together and installed Win2k fresh on.

I am going to try a few things that were suggested on other forums and such over the weekend, we'll see where it gets me.

I built a KT7A 1.3Gig Atlon, with a SBLIVE, and I used to get these ALL THE TIME...

I turned of ACPI and it fixed all my problems... have not had SINGLE one since.

These are usually driver issues if you are not o/c'ed.

I had a weird problem with BSOD which was caused by the MTU being set to 1500 when using DSL with PPPoe. If I try and set the MTU to 1500 it would cause BSOD when trying to download files. I search through the microsoft knowledge base and found that this is a rare glitch. Anyways setting the MTU to 1492 fixed it.
