Win2K dual boot problem

Hi guys,
I just helped my friend build a new computer. He originally had 2 partitions, because we forgot to create the 3rd partition from the remaining space. After the Win2K installation we realized this and rebooted with the Win2K CD to create the 3rd partition. Somehow during the partitioning process, Win2K copied some files to that partition too, but the installation process to that new partition was cancelled halfway, causing his bootup process to now show a dual boot with only 1 that's usable(since the other was cancelled halfway). After a quick format of the new partition, the dual boot still showed up. Is there any way to get rid of the dual boot, and if so, how?

You can't use XP to partition once the OS is loaded. You need Partition Magic to do that.

To get rid of the dual boot you will need to manually edit the boot.ini file on the c: drive. Instructions for this are in the Anandtech help files.

Sorry I mistook and said XP but you can't use 2k to partion once it is installed either. They work the same way.

I don't know if you found the answer you were looking for as you didn't post back. At any rate, you want to edit the boot.ini file. Its hidden and I believe its also read only so you might have to change your views in Explorer to view all files. Attrib -h -r c:\boot.ini will work also I think.
