I'm having a big problem that pops up once every few weeks. I have been using
Windows 2000 Pro for several months now. For the most part it works great. But
every few weeks, after I needed to restart, I sometimes get a stop error saying
INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE blue screen. It says to check for viruses or run
chkdsk. This will occur in the middle of the progress bar in the colored
starting up screenWell, in the past, running chkdsk from the recovery console
would resolve the problem, and I could then boot normally until the next time it
would happen. This last time, however, chkdsk says I have one or more
unrecoverable problems, and it cannot continue.

PC:
Asus K7V with latest BIOS
Athlon 750
Quantum KA drive (Win98SE on C: FAT32, My Documents on D: FAT32, Win2K Pro on G:
NTFS)

I really need to get into G: and get to my Outlook calendar and emails. TIA.

Sounds to me that you have some data corruption on the hard drive. Not sure what to recommend here. Possibly something like Norton Disk Doctor?

If you are mucking around with your partitions, you'll have to update c:\boot.ini to refelct the changes.

I didn't change anything with the partitions. It has been set up as described for months. Since I have NTFS on G: and can no longer boot to it, I can't use anything like Norton to fix it. The only thing I could use is chkdsk from the recovery console. I did find freeware from Systems Internals I am trying to get running. It provides drivers in Win98 to read an NTFS volume.

Wow. I'm back in Win2k now. In the Recovery Console, my drive letters were enumerated differently than in Win2k, so it was a matter of running chkdsk on the correct volume. In Win2k it is called G:. In the recovery console it was E:. Glad it's working, but I wish I knew why I sometimes get the INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE error.

There might ne a problem with the drivers of the HD controller. I don't know about your mobo, does it have any extra ide controller(promise etc?) When I had bp6, the HPT 366 controller would give me that error every now and then.
