Win2K Install Woes

I am trying to do a fresh install of windows 2000, and I get to the EULA part and can go no further. The keyboard works. I can page up/down in the EULA and escape out of it, but that's it. I even busted out a old windows 98 cd and I get the same problem. I have a p4 1.6 and a ABIT BG7 motherboard w/ 512MB RAM. What is the story here? Why won't the F8 key work? I know the keyboard is fine, since I have tested it on another system. Any help would be appreciated.

maybe your keyboard is fine, just your F8 key is busted.

I thought of that, but tried it on another machine and the F8 key works fine...

Have you scrolled ALL the way down the page and then tried F8?

You shouldn't need to do this. At least I don't have to on my copy

I have only encountered one software product in my entire life with computers that required that, and, suprisingly, it wasn't a Microsoft OS.

I have tried scrolling all the way down (even through the French version of the EULA). I am using a Logitech Internet Navigator Keyboard. Could this be an issue? It lets me page up/down and the escape key works. It just won't let me push the F8 key. The function keys work when I am setting up the bios though. (The F10 key quits and saves settings). I am really stumped here...

I have only encountered one software product in my entire life with computers that required that, and, suprisingly, it wasn't a Microsoft OS

Windows NT required that you scroll all the way through the EULA before you could hit F8 and continue.

Oh, well, I've never installed NT, so I didn't know that. Ya learn something new every day!

For the record, I've only (so far) had the pleasure of installing Windows 95, 98 SE, 2000 Pro, 2000 Server, and XP Pro. Going to install .NET 2003 RC1 soon though.

Is it a USB keyboard? Try an older PS/2 keyboard (or a USB one with a PS/2 adaptor). If it's a PS/2 keyboard, all I can suggest is trying another one without the special extra keys on it. When you say that you've tested it on another system, do you mean that you've booted from the Win2k CD and proceeded up to the point of the license agreement and it worked ok, or just that you pressed a few keys while already in Windows?

I used the keyboard on another system to make sure the F8 key works. It is a USB keyboard with the PS2 adapters. I think I am going to try an old school PS2 keyboard and mouse and see if that does the trick. And you are correct NT used to make you scroll all the way through the EULA before you could accept it...
