im hvaing problems with my network card in win2k. this is what ipconfig gives me when i run it:

www.bozeh.f2s.com/win2k.jpg

the card will nto receive/send any data through the network. the network card in question is the linksys lnetx100(v5). i know that the card works because i can use it under win98se just fine and i also know that it is not a driver issue because windows accepts the drivers off the linksys wbesite just fine. my vital stats are:
abit kt7raid mobo
512 cas2 133 crucial ram
60gig IBM 60gxp hd
20gig WD hd
plextor 16x ide burner
vortex2 sound card
gf2 gts 32mb

the network card is plugged into pci slot 6 and the sound card is in slot 3, ive heard tales about pci slot 5 being dodgy on my mobo, and so i didnt use it. if anyone knows what this all means, then pls reply, i got 3 months till a very big lan party and i would really like to use win2k there rather than slow 98, thanks

Ok, first a few questions:

1) Do you have green activity/connection lights on? Do you have an icon in your systray with a comp w/ an X through it?

2) What type of network do you have? Computer->Computer, Computer->switch/hub/cable modem?
If you have computer->computer, you need a crossover cable. Check the cabling to make sure it is working...?

3) Oh, and how is your computer to get an IP address? DHCP, or static? Make sure you have the proper one set in the NIC properties.

Well, those are just a few questions to help you get started... With more information, I can help more.

Edit: Welcome to AT...hope we can help

right

1.when the network cable is pluged in, both of the lights on the back of my network card are on, one of them shows whether the thing is going at 100mbps and the other is the green activity light
2. the network is a standard | comp -> hub -> comp | setup
3. this is where it gets a bit wierd, when i go to the network properties to check my ip address in the advanced TCP/IP settings, all win2k says is 'DHCP Enabled' even tho i disabled it through the admin services panel. this is the main thing that is bugging me, as ive clearly get DHCP disabled :|

Do you still have a modem? It still has an ip in your pic. If you turned dhcp off on the nic, did you assign it an ip?

you havent really disabled DHCP, what you did is disable the service, all that does (are both running win2k?) is when ur nic, which is still setup for dhcp wants to acccess a dhcp server .. nothing happens because ur service that allows this to happen isnt running, set static ip addresses, in the TCP/IP properties of both machines .. make one 192.168.0.1 and the other 192.168.0.2 .. then tell us what happens, or if im not understanding ur network correctly then tell me, but thats what it looks like to me ..

i have a usb adsl modem and the first time i tried turning dhcp off, i was at a big lan where all the machines had their ip adresses assigned automatically, i even had a coupel of the network guys try to get this machine to work without any success.

ill go try setting an ip now, and post back in a few mins

im using it so i can run ipconfig without the window closing after it finishes running.

anyways, ive assigned ip addresses to both comps and it works

only problem now is that the win98 machine can 'see' my computer on the network even tho i can see it from this machine. but im guessing it because of the different filing system i have in place (NTFS).
