Win2k not installing on RAID

i used the kt7a-raid to setup the striped RAID 0 array using Primary Master and Secondary Master and 2- 45gb 75gxps. everything works, formats fine, and i go to install win2k. it copies the files fine, then on reboot i start having problems. i put the new HPT370 drivers on a floppy, hit F6, copies the drivers, and goes on to load win2k but halts right there. the light on my logitech usb optical goes on so i'm assuming it at least gets to the point where usb is activated, although i'm not sure what significance that has. anyone ? help !

I spent 3 weeks in frustration with this.

Your problem is ACPI and the HPT370, they don't get along.

ACPI wants to shove everything onto IRQ11 and the HPT370 doesn't like sharing. Here's what I did to get everything running tip[ top and with no problems at all.

1. Take out every card except AGP video and my NIC
2. Install as normal
3. Install SP1
4. Open device manager, open computer, double click "ACPI Computer" and go to driver tab.
5. Update driver, show all devices, change to "Standard PC"
6. Reboot, let Win2k find all my devices agan (took 2 boots)
7. After successful boot in Standard PC mode, shut down, put in the rest of my cards, install drivers , and proceed as if nothing had happened.

I have the same HD's as you and this has been the ONLY way I have gotten all my cards and my rig functioning with two HD's each as a master.

sweet, thanks ! i did exactly as you said and everything worked fine- i removed my soundblaster live card (the only other card i have besides my NIC and AGP card) and it installed perfectly.

installed everything and it works fine. but now when i stick in my soundblaster live, it doesn't boot! ack!
it goes through the windows load, the progess goes full, and my USB optical mouse loads up- and it freezes right there. dammit, so close. how can i get the soundblaster to install ?

Ditch ACPI.

Honestly, if you can't find a slot combination that will work, this is the only way to make it run smooth.

I have the same exact problem with Abit KT7-A too. This frustrates me like hell. I know the problem lies in the highpoint controller which I never envy since the day of BE6-2. Had tons of problems with that too.

anyway I gave up and never tried the ACPI method. I ended up doing a software Raid on (2) 40GB WD Drives.

i DID get rid of ACPI- it says Standard PC now (actually it even says it twice..?)

that's the problem, i don't know what's wrong there shouldn't be anything stopping the soundblaster live card to work

What slot combinations have you tried? It took me two or three shots to get one that would wotk between my NIC, SBLive and SCSI card.

hmm, seems to have worked now. i snagged the compatibility updates and critical updates from microsoft's windowsupdate and rebooted w/ the soundblaster live card, and it booted up !

i tried putting in my old ati tv wonder card but that halted the booting process, doh. oh well, no big loss- wasn't expecting to use that card w/ my win2k box anyway. at least my sound works
